HMRC tax campaign Electricians 2012

Anyone who believes the coming campaign activity may apply to them and who wants to come forward now and voluntarily disclose can call HMRC.
This builds on HMRC's plumbers' campaign and gives an opportunity to another group of trades people to come forward and declare unpaid tax.

Trades 2nd campaign - – electricians/electrical fitters –Electrician’s Tax Safe Plan (ETSP) -starting February 2012.

Make sure you do all your notifications, but I thought that Part P was introduced for Safety reasons.

Whilst I'm always up for a conspiracy theory, if you actually think about what information you provide in order to do the Part P notifications, there's little of any use to HMRC. Unless they are now taxing by the ohm, of course.

Well yes, they are, but they contain no financial info whatsoever. If I want to charge £50k or 50p for a rewire, that's entirely up to me. And they also don't provide enough information about the job done to make any sort of value judgement.

It would take a huge amount of manpower, even in these computerised days, to connect the dots, and even then HMRC would have to approach the customers to make enquiries. So all in all, I'm not worried.

The odd little job that I might do from time to time as a cash earner is normally less than £100 or so and just get's spent on a tank of juice - so plenty of taxation going on there!!

If I had my way, those like this would have their benefits cut every 6 months, so sooner or later work would pay.

I've just looked at the link and this bit made me chuckle:

"An electrician can be defined as anyone who installs, maintains and tests electrical systems, equipment and appliances under stringent safety regulations"

So that means the pub electrician who doesn't give a dam about regulations, insurance, etc is in the clear!

One of many many social issues this country has is that we now have successive generations of people who do not know what work is - literally. Their parents spent their lives on the dole and now live in right to remain ex council houses, they don't have any mates that work, whole council estates that just claim off the rest of us. In the meantime, hard working courageous blokes lose legs in Afghanistan. Nah - make the scroungers walk in front of them first.

Nothing wrong with tax avoidance. It's tax evasion that you need to be a bit more circumspect about!

At the end of the August deadline, the first action was....
Last week HMRC announced that five plumbers have been arrested in tax raids. In addition, around 600 are under civil investigation because HMRC considers they have failed to pay the right amount of tax. More raids are expected to take place over the coming weeks across the UK.
