And everyone should have cctv these days. With a couple of obvious cameras and a couple not so obvious.

There's another idea which can be used as well: leave a couple of dog toys in the front garden.

Bring back capital punishment, if they are caught on camera or in possession and there is no doubt, cut off their fingers! For robbing a person, especially the vulnerable - chop off their genitals as well.

The state would have to look after them then and we’d foot the bill because they’d need a carer to hold their kebab because they’ve got no fingers.
The genitals is a different matter - don’t need a carer for that! and we save our hard earned money!

Clearly visible but quite small red, yellow and black signs on doors and downstairs windows:
'Very High Voltage Active Inside - Do Not Enter - Danger of servere shock or death' signs. Never been broken into (my house or earlier in my career my rather vulnerable workshop).

My camerasnotify me in less than 5 seconds of movement outside my flat or inside.#

I can monitor my flat inside or outside from my cottage in Slovakia 1000 miles away with no issues as long as wifi or have mobile smartphone internet access via 3g.

If someone was to even come to your door you would get a mobile phone notification in less than 10 secs so plenty of time to phone the rozzers - probably catch em before they have even opened the door lol;

I work in IT security and you dont need really expensive setups.
You do need to do it wired though i would forget about wireless stuff as crims know how to jam em and its just not reliable

Try a coupla these and some rj45 cabling its all you really need!
I have tried out around 10 different ipcams from various sources and the Chinese ones are actually pretty good EasyN and DBPower were my faves until i found this one recently - only £18.99.

Have had the Easy-n F Series i paid £19 for running outside my flat now for 7 years 24 hours a day no problems - i made up my own POE system to allow me to use the RJ45 for power and have just one cable to go to the cameras for £3 but you can buy a POE system on Amazon for £20 - I presume as an electrician you would be able to build yer own - if ye need a list of the electronics parts i can oblige.

But yeah two of these beauties is all you need - the interface is one of the best i have used and the wifi is actually not bad - it usually isnt on these types of cams but this one is a beazer!

Unfortunately the burglar has more rights than you do. You would end up in jail for GBH and find yourself facing a lawsuit and the burglar would end up with a big compensation pay off.

That's the problem when they get caught insufficient evidence.

I've just reminded myself of another story.
A fella I went to school with ended up a proper lazy lay about. He got caught up in all sorts of things and eventually robbery. He systematically robbed his neighborhood and the police excuse was? yes you guessed it "insufficient evidence". It all came to a head when one Christmas he broke into a few local homes and stole the Christmas presents. Again the police failed to charge him and he was released. The locals, completely fed up decided to set up a vigilantly group and take matters into their own hands. The guy was apprehended and given a bit of a beating which resulted in him being hospitalized with 2 badly broken fingers.
2 members of the vigilantly group were arrested and charged and imprisoned for GBH, so missed Christmas with their families. The fella sued the members of the group and was awarded £100,000 + in compensation. He claimed that the beating had left him unable to work even though he had never worked since leaving school. So he claimed for future loss of earnings on top of injuries.

Sad but true.
Sometimes it makes you wish we were like the Americans, where you can blow someone's head off with a 12 bore just for knocking on your front door.

But, on balance, I think we're better off as we are.

If a GBH is a bigger crime then how come I don't get paid?
