Hey there, I just moved into an apartment and we have a water heater control panel. It seems to heat the water during the night for a full seven hours. I do not need this much time at all, and frankly if I could just get it to come on for 2-3 hours from say 4 or 5 am that would be perfect. I know that night time energy costs less but a whole seven hours seems wasteful.

Is there any way to alter this? Here is a picture of the front: https://www.dropbox.com/s/45c31ptnw2btvcm/IMG_5463.JPG?dl=0

It's frustrating as in my previous house the timer could be fully changed and we had the water heating come on whenever we wanted and could add more/less time as we needed.

Even if it can't be changed, how much energy would something like this use in terms of kWh. I believe it's set to 70 degrees or something like that when it does come on.

Any help appreciated, very new to all this.

It won't be running nothing like that. Although the timer is on for this period there is also a thermostat in series which regulates the heat of the cylinder. It wont run any longer than required, it just ensures that if it does run, it operates in the off peak period.

Ah cool, sorry for a silly question like that. The boiler itself doesn't have a lagging jacket so will leave it on in that case and get a jacket so it can keep the heat in longer. Thanks so much for your help.

Is it necessary to insulate this sort of one with a lagging jacket?

No, not required. The tank is already lagged. As said above, the thermostat will only work when required. If however you think your water is too hot, you could always turn the thermostat down a degree or two.

just noticed you mentioned 70 degrees.......65 degrees would be better I would of thought. It's only a guide though.

That sounds great, where would the thermostat be do you think? I had a look around the panels and boiler itself and couldn't figure it out.
