Been reading about what a UK family etc has to go through before they are allowed to Host a Ukraine Family .Gas safe check , EICR ? , Monoxide detectors , Security checks etc etc .Even MIN size of room for a kid etc !

Anyone been asked to do a Electrical test on a property for this reason ???

Just read a report that since the start of the conflict (if you can call it that) the EU has handed Russia €35 billion (£30 billion) for Gas since the invasion began, so much for the unity of the Union.

Hardly surprising. Especially with countries such as Germany with the amount of Russian gas they use. They can't just build a set of nuclear power stations in a few weeks.

Germany are buying approximately €800m of gas from Russia every day.

Hardly surprising. Especially with countries such as Germany with the amount of Russian gas they use. They can't just build a set of nuclear power stations in a few weeks.

It's a difficult situation for Germany, but one of their own making and one which they were repeatedly warned about. There are two videos doing the rounds in which Trump warned them, several years back, about their reliance on Russian energy and the situation they were creating for themselves. Naturally enough his words were ignored and in one of the videos German representatives laughed at him, although I'm sure they aren't laughing now. It wasn't only Trump who sounded such warnings, but it appears as though German decisions were made purely on economic terms and they now face tough decisions due previous, single minded policies.

Hitler would have .

Well considering how much Trump was a fan of Putin is it had to take him seriously on that matter.

But everyone else was saying the same to Germany and they chose to ignore it, and also to bend to the greens wanting rid of the nuclear power (so they imported dirty power from elsewhere - cause that was clearly making Germany "green"!).

I guess they thought such a war in Europe would not happen again in their lifetimes so go with the cheapest option. Sadly that proved to be a bad gamble and putting their economy's nuts in Russia's vice probably emboldened Putin as well as they can't do so much in retaliation.

All very sad.

The warning was indeed sounded by others, but Trump had done so publicly and in typical fashion, hence the videos in circulation.

I often struggle to understand German thinking as they are known to be sticklers for rules, yet quietly bend them when it suits. To be fair, their 'green' energy policy isn't much different to a lot of what passes for 'green' energy worldwide - all fur coat and no knickers, with environmental concerns hidden from sight and passed to poorer nations.

The other factor is that they closed all of their own nuclear after the Fukushima nuclear accident, and this in itself was a rather daft knee-jerk reaction. A friend of mine who works at Sellafield was telling me that the reactors involved were the old BWR design with one loop cycle, whereas most modern ones have two loops and a heat exchanger with significant safety benefits.
Poor Germany have made a series of bad decisions in this area.

Energy is a complex topic within the EU.

Germany opposed moves in Brussels to classify nuclear and gas (below a certain level of emissions) as 'green' energy, then went on to call for rules to be amended to classify gas as a 'transition' fuel. I'm sure this pressure had nothing to do with their having scaled back on nuclear and their heavy reliance on gas to (eventually) replace coal and oil.

These discussions within the EU come after the bloc previously agreed to significantly reduce the use of all fossil fuels. A few eyebrows have been raised as they shuffle goalposts around the pitch, but none of the usually vocal environmental lobbies seem to have much to say on the subject.

Many 'environmentalists' seem to be nothing more than political agitators with heavily slanted bias.

And what seems to always be conveniently forgotten is how much energy and resources are used to build the supposedly green alternative energy, how much concrete in a wind turbine? how many heavy plant machines are used to make and assemble? heavy plant is diesel not electric, how much infrastructure is needed to service these turbines? Now lets look at solar panels, no can't be bothered, I am just going to open my popcorn.

Then there's the aluminium smelted to make the casings and towers, a fair bit of copper in the turbines, fibreglass for the blades (already an eco-disaster when they get replaced) and the capital cost to the energy companies who pay landowners a large sum to site the machinery and sometimes an annual rental too. Don't forget the additional cost of constructing roads to give access to some of the remote sites, and the cost of cabling...It must take a wind turbine quite a long time to recoup its initial cost.
Solar energy seems a fair bet, but my money's on tidal power, but I have bored you all with that before.

I started using Lithium Nanophosphate batteries when the first came out in 2001 admittedly in my model turbines, but their propensity not to combust and keep supplying oxygen to the fire made them a far safer and better chemistry to the Lithium Polymer that most where using at that time, but you have to think how much energy does it take to mine Lithium, again heavy plant that is still Diesel.

Lithium battery issues do arise through poor design or manufacturing processes, but the vast majority are caused by carelessness or damage.

Regardless, I remain unconvinced that minining vast quantities of lithium, nickel and cobalt can ever be considered environmentally friendly.

I wonder how much water goes through the Thames tidal defence barrier in twelve hours or so, and then the biggest make in the Seven, we live on an Island with, how many tidal rivers? But we must no forget the Salmon by pass, and let's not forget the bl***y beavers, destructive little bu****s.
