House re-wire help

Hi chaps,

Right...need some help.

Had my first call through for a house re-wire. As of yet i have not done any jobs of this magnitude and frankly dont want to get it wrong/lose the job. Unfortunately the lady left a message on my voice mail while i was working and i was unable to reach her when trying to call back so as it stands i know nothing about the job so you will have to bear with me on that front.

All i want to know for now is, (as i have only carried out CU changes, small installs, remedial repairs and testing jobs so far), what are the important and essential questions/information to gather from this lady in regards to the job so i can put together and a fair and representetive quote for her? I wouldnt dream of taking this on by myself, so two good friends both (professional sparks) currently on holiday in florida, have happily agreed to help me, both part peed and 17th edition etc.

I would hugely appreciate your input on this so i can approach her in a professional and trust worthy fashion.

haven't you heard that a wired link is more reliable than a wireless one?
(I've just spent a couple of days sorting the new virgin wireless hub)

Changing the aspect slightly (away from WiFi that is)

have you considered offering RCBO's rather than a split load RCD board?

I have used CPN boards a few times and the RCBO's come in at about £14 each

this means that you can offer a fully-loaded RCBO board for about the £90 +vat

This is certainly the way i like to go if the finances make sense usually, like you say RCBO's can be picked up at such a good price nowadays it seems a little backwards not to go that option.

You could give a price option for RCD split board or the more expensive option for RCBO's (don't forget there is more testing with a fully loaded RCBO board). PM me if you want the details of my wholesaler who stock it

Yea i mean obvously the manufacturing costs combined with such a competitive market appear to dropping dramatically across certain brands, i really cant see it being long until they just become the standard PD for most jobs. The only off-put to rcbo's is the cost of them, but with companies selling between £13-16 its almost a no brainer.

You will be lucky to get £2200 around my way, its crazy. I had some experience working with two niceic sparks, 3 bed, full rewire, two 10 hour shifts over a weekend, left plastering for custy to sort though.

Yes mate, cash in hand, all above board though as was certified and notification to NAPIT so the guys i was working with would still have to declare it.
It just seems there are some crazy prices out there at the moment, the two guys that have been giving me some experience days with them work full time for medium size sparky firm round my way but work together on their own private stuff evenings and weekends so can price like this coz its still good money for two days work. Doesnt help the trade though for the self employed guys trying to quote against them.

Its not the certification I'm on about - its the fact that their price was CASH i.e. could be 28% below someone doing it by the book.

I would think it would on the books, maybe not the full amount but there would be a paper trail coz if the cert etc s could be picked up on an audit.

Well check out 3.6.1 In the on site guide on P(21-22)...for TT systems ALL circuits must be given RCD protection mate and the only way to get discrimination would be tu use an s type ...upstream of the outbuilding feed.....which would then feed another RCD at the outbuilding end............
