House Rewiring - Telephone Line

Hi All,
I need some advice please. I am getting the whole house rewired/plastered and at the same time, i would like to put in a telephone cable in certain room in the house. I am bit confused on what i should buy and install. I reviewed forums and they seem a bit old, so could be installing something not required or legacy.
I have a master socket downstairs in the landing and i had legacy sockets upstairs in my daughters bedroom - a cable leading from the master socket to the socket upstairs. This was where we had the family PC/router and house telephone. I want to modify the location of these devices to as follows:
Keep the master socket in the landing downstairs and also keep the router upstairs in the kids bedroom , but:
1) Have a telephone socket for the family phone in the master bedroom and kitchen
2) Do i need to lay a telephone socket in the kids bedroom, along with a telephone line or will the new house electric wiring suffice, with wireless plugs. - wiring will be hidden
3) I am bit confused with 4-core or 8-core telephone cable , what is the difference -

4) Is there any recommendation on what telephone socket i should go for, i want to make it future proof also, especially with more and more devices becoming wireless now
5) Is there also any recommendation for network devices for WIFI around the whole house.

As you can see i am bit confused and out of touch with what is available and possible these days on the market. So any advice will be appreciated.

<Master socket is BT's so that tends to remain where it is, although you dont need to plug anything into it (usuallly). Decide exactly where you want the router, run 4 or 8 core cable from master to router socket, socket is a secondary. from router socket run 4 or 8 core cable to master bed and again to kitchen, like a daisy chain.
Only thing i would add is best wifi coverage is obtained by careful placement of router and any additional wifi coverage required. So if there is already a poor area of the house then consider running Cat5e type cable (similar to phone cable in appearence but very different in terms of signal performance) from router to an ceiling mounted wifi extender.
Modern wifi gives best performance (i.e. speed) when the signal strength is at its highest, so dont skimp on wifi coverage and then moan when its slow... lol

Personally I would run cat 6 ethernet cable all run to central point of your choosing. You can then terminate the cat 6 into either a j45 socket for network or telephone plate.

Then use a patch panel to wire up as desired.

Then you've got the option for networking or setting up for telephone.

Telephone cable is usually 6 core... 8 core is computer network cable.
likelyhood is you would only use 2 out of the 6.

As you suggested, i need to purchase a new wifi router, as a example with this be a good idea, as my router is service provider supplied and old... TalkTalk, so need an upgrade.

I was thinking, based on your recommendation, i would instead purchase a WIFI extenders to ethernet the house. Would CAT 5 or CAT 6 be better, what is the difference and better overall?

Could you elaborate more on the patch panel.. For the Cat6 and Telephone cable.

For a patch panel you want something like with enough ports for network. For example

Nope you just use an adapter, if the phone has replaceable cable then you can replace with:

I haven't got any experience with those sockets but they certainly would work.

OMG, thats poo, You need something like this Ubiquiti - UniFi® AP AC LITE - https://www.ui.com/unifi/unifi-ap-ac-lite/

Just make sure your router wifi is also 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, connect both together with cat 5 and you are good to go. Most modern stuff now has 5ghz chipset for wifi, like phones and tablets but like i said you need a good signal to get full speed out of your broadband or superfast broadband. Then make sure all you TVs and other stuff is wifi enabled and you dont need to cable the rest.

Sorry some reason I can't edit my post those sockets wouldn't work with normal phone as I described. They would work if you set up a VOIP network though.

cant see any benefit in a domestic instance using cat6 instead of cat5!

Just a bit of future proofing but you've got a fair point. Cat 5 is 1gbs while cat6 can do 10gbs but not many domestic user are going to need that kind of speed.

Since you are having the house rewired and replastered have you considered installing plastic conduit for the comms? Depending on the runs and house construction this would minimalize disruption in the future.

My plan was to hide the wiring behind the plaster, similar to the electrical wiring.

Good comments and food for thought.

The UniFi sound a good option and i am really considering it.

Here is what i am thinking:

Leave the master socket in the landing, as you enter the house.
Option 1) Keep the router downstairs next to the landing and then have a UniFi or WiFi Socket, as an extender on 1st Floor, then we can use the WiFi extender for 2nd Floor and surrounding areas.

Option 2) Have one Ethernet Cable - CAT 5 or 6 going from downstairs to kids bedroom. Family Computer is located here.

Question - I need advice on the following, i have a master socket with filter attached to the master socket. How do i connect the ethernet cable from the master socket to bedroom upstairs. Would i use a face plate and connect the ethernet cable from master socket to extension socket upstairs. I am not sure here. From here i connect the router to the extension socket.

I can then use the Wifi extender downstairs - Ground Floor and one upstairs - 2nd Floor.

I don't too many ethernet cables in the house or telephone cables. Just have central point, as i feel WiFi would be suffice.

What do you think.

Cat6 not worth the extra aggro with cables, sockets, patch leads and the like. In a house as mentioned you will get 1Gb/s easy, i only use 6 where i am using copper uplinks at 10G/s or i have long distances with POE. TBH if you are going above 1Gb/s its actually better and easier to use fibre.
