would you get a lethal shock fi you touched this part on a powerline and what does it do. im just curious thats all. [ElectriciansForums.net] how badder shock would you get if you touched this part on a powerline

Lacking lots of info to give answer but even with the lowest voltage lines 230v it would have no problem killing you but alot of variables have to be considered and every case is different, if this is part of an 11Kv system then little chance of not been roasted alive if you became part of the circuit between adjacent wires or ground, your higher voltages are usually carried on the bigger pylons and they can charcoal you in seconds, all this said its the current that does the damage the higher the voltage the more current it will push through you.

Belive it or not we have some near me on wooden poles that carry 132kv,wondered why they had massive insulators on them so followed the line back and they come straight down of a steel lattice tower at 132 then go on to the wooden poles, never found out why though.

Its definatley connected to 11Kv there is one right near me i think its some sort of surge arrestor and i defo wouldnt touch it ive seen what it can do look at my avatar << !

A kid in our school got on top of a station (no one knows how to this day) and reached out to steady himself on a bus bar fed straight from the OH lines.
Needless to say it didn't end well.

You get big insulators on 11 or 33 Kv but voltages above are usually part of the big pylon system at greater height but il stand corrected as its not my field, but can believe it as trains use something like 25Kv on their power lines which aint that high.

Trains do use 25kv on relatively low level lines but they are on railway property which is strictly private.

If you trespass into any sub station, there are often easily accessible dangerous voltages to touch.

The moral is don't access dangerous places where you have no right to be!!!!

unless you're a pikey after copper.

132KV systems use fault thrower switches. IE a switch will close to earth on one phase and cause a fault condition at the primary sub.

So our local “Jack the lad” decides to nick the earth tape. Just as he cut it a fault occurred, **** happens!

He wasn’t prosecuted he was electrocuted,

Seems reasonable to me. Just glad I wasn’t on shift to find the body. It was our intake sub.
