Hi, just a quick question about the CSCS , 17th edition and JIB cards. I finished college a year ago and have recently been looking at jobs, many of them require a CSCS card , 17th edition and a JIB card.

I think the CSCS is a 1 day course and easy to arrange. I am not sure how I go about getting a JIB card though if anybody could help, I did the NVQ level 3 in Electrical Installation. And about 17th edition, I think I remember at college the tutor saying we should have passed the 17th edition automatically when doing the course because it was the most recent edition, can anyone confirm this because I don't have any certificates for that.

I had a look at the AM2 exam out of sheer nosiness a couple of weeks ago. There didn't seem to be much in there that we didn't do on Electrical Trainee course. Off memory wiring a motor, and follow the diagram boiler wiring. Is it a waste of time therefore?

the am2 has been dummed down, it used to have pyro, galv containment etc but now there isnt any of that.

the am2 is taken after the log book is complete at the end of an apprenticeship.

Fair enough. I doubt you'll have any problems with it from what I can make out. So am I right that it's now C&G 2365 level 1 and then level 2. Then C&G 2356 is the NVQ3 (logbook), and at the end of that is AM2. And all this can be done within or without an apprenticeship, though obviously the NVQ3 requires plenty of variation of onsite work?

yes and no.

the 2365 replaces the 2330(2360 before i think)

the 2356 is the old nvq they have been phasing out for the last 3 years

(and its level 2+3, people get put on level one if there doing a full apprenticeship or are a bit slow)
isnt the newest qualification the 2357 and includes everything in to one qualification
yes/no the 2356 is the direct replacement to the 2330 technical certificate.

the 2357 nvq diploma is (2356+nvq course under one code)

you can just do the nvq part of 2357 or all your training to be qualified from it. (to just do the nvq part you need 2330 or equivient + a bridging course to cover any bits missed e.g renewables)

I looked into this for a mate of mine recently. 2356-31 (NVQ3) was phased out. 2356-99 (NVQ3) was brought back last year for people with 5 years experience and 2330. AM2 also now required for 2356-99. If they have less than 5 years &/or no tech cert they are not eligible and would have to go through the 2365 / 2357 route.

It's a very long route for someone with electrical experience who only wishes to work on domestic. I'm still not decided what's best for me. Once I come back off holiday I'll have to have a serious think.
