Hi all, I work for a few local plumbers and have found myself doing more and more boiler repairs, a lot of the breakdowns are electrical so there not interested, (I did try and show one how to use a multimeter once but gave up! Lol)
They take the cover off, I repair it, then they put the cover back on. Its not ideal, as we can't always meet at same time, gets expensive having 2 trades on site etc etc
anyway the long and short of it would prefer to do it on my own,
is it possible to do an gas appliance course and get gas safe that way or do I have to do the whole lot?
Please forgive my ignorance I have no idea how gas safe registration works.

thanks

sam

Thanks for the replies, I did have a google but went round in circles then I rang gas safe but they were no use at all, thought I would ask on here as someone might have been in the same position.
i don't want to become a plumber I just want to legally be able to work on boilers & CH systems as there seems to be a call for it in my area and I enjoy the work.

unfortunately the only boiler covers you are able to remove are 'decorative' and don't require a tool to remove. I be yet to come across one of these!

Cheers

Hi dude, your high-lighted statement caught my eye. Do not get drawn in to the forum banter, belittling Plumbers. Proper trained fellows,as in the electrical industry, are capable of many aspects of their trade,
In days ,sadly gone, they would be responsible for ALL lead work, soldering, making tools, mixing up glues and killed-spirits,like a skilled alchemist!
The last "Plumber" i conversed with, told me "I am NOT a plumber,i am a Heating Engineer"....then folded like damp card, trying to explain how a gravity system functioned....
Anywho.....my convoluted post is to encourage you pursue your training,as you seem enthusiastic. My young pal, moved from washing machines,to now be Gasafe registered. He did it whilst working, and although it was over a couple of years,it did not seem a bind.
I would, personally, steer clear from the long-fee/short-course outfits, and investigate alternative methods. Good luck :icon12:

gravity fed system you say, not terribly complicated.

1bar= 1m of pressure so 2.5bar would be enough to go uphill a couple meters to a holding tank ready to supply cw storage tank/boiler.

the work is quite relaxing as the rules say do this. nice to take your brain out for a bit

why haven't you asked any of the plumbers you do the repairs for?
