How do I get gas safe?

Hi all, I work for a few local plumbers and have found myself doing more and more boiler repairs, a lot of the breakdowns are electrical so there not interested, (I did try and show one how to use a multimeter once but gave up! Lol)
They take the cover off, I repair it, then they put the cover back on. Its not ideal, as we can't always meet at same time, gets expensive having 2 trades on site etc etc
anyway the long and short of it would prefer to do it on my own,
is it possible to do an gas appliance course and get gas safe that way or do I have to do the whole lot?
Please forgive my ignorance I have no idea how gas safe registration works.

To the O.P

It's not cheap and not quick to get to a position where you can register as Gassafe.
Even more so if you are going to be self employed.
Re-assessment is every 5 years.

You'd need a substantial amount of regular work to justify it.

The time consuming part is the portfolio of witnessed onsite work required.
You'll be lucky to complete the whole thing in less than 6months.

You'll need Nvq 3 to even get to the training, you'll be classed as a category 3 entrant, nil experience.

Then to do Domestic boilers you only need;

CCN1 Core Safety
CENWAT (Ignore references to CPA1 (flue gas analysis), it's now included in CCN1)

Plus a protfolio of work.

However the portfolio covers all appliances as once you have CCN1 you can add any other appliances later.

As self employed you have to register the business and also the Operative and you're on probation as a newly registered business


I got Corgi , and now Gassafe before all Portfolio /NVQ started, and worked for a company who employed gas engineers.
