the other way, of course, is to get a plug top with a bit of flex attached. short the L and E, then switch on the socket, see how quick the MCB trips.:stupid:
 
it's all down to the definition of a fault of negligible impedance. that is a contradiction in terms. there is negligible impedance between the top of an open beer bottle and my gob, and they call that a fault?
