I want to start installing spotlights but I find the connectivity difficult as they don't come with ceiling roses. The only way I could think of is taking the switch wire to a junction box and then wiring the corresponding spotlights off it, can it be done this way? or what is the correct procedure?

It wasn't in a house in this particular instance, but it could just as easily have been.

BC Insp round here said all plasterboard ceilings have a degree of fire protection and if you put holes in it you better make sure you do not reduce the integrity of it with regard to fire? Since then I have always fitted fire rated everywhere in houses. What do you know?

Easiest way is to feed the switch and then loop your switched supply to each of the downlights.
But Meggerman's method is perfectly valid and usually required if replacing an existing loop in out fitting, but the junction box should be accessible for maintenance.
Yeah definite, if it is new then feed the switch and save yourself doing a JB.

NO thanks, rather do the job myself. If your going to be any help how about answering the question, im not looking to provide work

Donkey

I've never moaned about the lack of work, and some of these numpties NEVER think or engage their brains before they post!

Hope next time you want to learn something ....some calls you a numptie . what a crap attitude numptie

Every time I have asked a question without thinking or engaging my brain properly I have been called far worse than a numpty, and have always reacted by laughing along with them when i've realised how daft i've been.

I see no issue with his attitude personally, ask a stupid question you get a stupid answer. ask a sensible question and get a sensible answer.
