Hi guys,

I know that it may be a little hard to give correct information but I'm interested in knowing how long it takes peps to do your job:

PIR's EIC's first fix rewires (will need to state details on the extent of the rewire prob)

EIC's I give a 8hrs to but can get it done in less on occations doing full tests but only R2's to the light switches from the rose after R1+R2 at the rose.

I rarely get a PIR done inside 3hrs on a anything larger than a 3 bed house with only one DB. Usually 6-7 circuits including 2 rings.

Do you do the full figure of 8 ring tests or do you cut corners? you can PM me those if you don't want to say.:D

I hear that other sparks get things done in 2hrs or less but I would like to know from you guys what the real info is?

I price for day for a PIR or small 6 to 8 way cu and take however long is needed (usually 6ish hrs). I dont do repairs with the pir as said before it is a report. some minor ones I will do (again as said before) like cpc not connected to metal face plates. I also always check the tightness of connections anywhere I touch since they are inveriably loose and if disturbed you will get a call back something like "my lights are not working upstairs" or similar.
Earthing and bonding not corrected only highlighted esp if there is a Zs on the high side. Same with IR values.

its so variable, replacement consumer units for me take longer than new builds as more involved,as in a lot of cases a monkey has lashed it in and not labelled anything,i would always allow a day for cu change on standard 2/3 bed house,if finish earlier all well and good.i have seen super sparks second fix in a day, then when i have done eic, well not impressed is all i can say,i know people need to earn money but personally i like to make things look nice,if it takes an hour extra then the other bloke then ok,but at least i can say yep thats my work.

I allow all day and price accordingly for a PIR. It takes as long as it takes, and i don't do any repairs. I test and Inspect ONLY. I can see the raised eyebrows now, but, when my van goes for its MOT it gets tested and Inspected, and nothing more, no matter how dangerous it may be, unless i pay for the extra work to be carried out. So why should i adopt a different attitude, and feel duty bound to work for free.

Cheers........Howard
Totally agree, I did a PIR today for a friend and discovered early on that the ring main CPC was cut in half somewhere. Not wanting to leave it like that for her I started a 'quick look' which ended up two hours later with carpets and floorboards all over the place to find a junction box older than the ark feeding a spur with no earth coming back into the ring. Had been like that for probably 20 years or more. The point is, an inspection report is an assessment of the current condition of an installation with reccomendations as to what needs doing to it. Repairs and upgrades come later, or, before you know it, a 6 hour job is infringing on pub time!!!

Cheers guys some straight answers coming!

I work for someone & I'm always being pushed to work faster as we have to earn a daily rate in order to pay the bills, so a PIR is given 3hrs for one person to do on an average house, & we also don't fix things unless its agreed before hand or it leaves the intallation unsafe.

It never works out to be 3hrs but close on occations but usually it takes double that cos of complications. I usually have at least one other job to do that day, paperwork is done that evening or another day (i try and get friday afternoons for paperwork).

DB replacements I give 8hrs to not including writing up the paperwork.

thx guys much appreciate yr input.

Targets  somebody's bright idea to improve productivity - invariably just lead to problems where ever they are introduced no matter what industry it is.

PIR I always allow a day. CU change allow a day. Work for myself, price it so that I don't have any pressure to get it done and on to another job. Nothing worse than scrabbling about at the end of a day. As with previous postings, PIR is just that, a report , but I would make safe anything blatantly dangerous. Remedial work is chargeable.
