Hi All,

Please can you advise on minor works certificates?

Some of our fitters are insisting on charging for two minor works certificates and some only charge for one, when they are doing work in more than one room. I believe that if all the work can be listed on the certificate then that is all I need, and that is all I should be charged for.

Can anyone help confirm which is correct?

Thanks

Jaspa.

Testing in accordance with the requirements of the minor works certificate should be carried out for every altered circuit. Not all Minor works certificates are made equal. Some allow for one circuit and associated details to be recorded, some allow more.
I always use a cert that allows three circuits to be recorded, and I always include for testing and certification and do not charge extra for it. This is because testing and inspection is a requirement of the regulations and should be carried out in every instance where a circuit is altered in some way.

Thanks to everyone that replied!

but this raises another question for me.

Is it possible then that I could supply a blank (template) certificate that would allow for multiple circuits and the electrician doing the testing would just fill that in?

Thanks

Jaspa

That is something you would have to agree with your electricians. None of us know the working relationship here or any scheme affiliations or electrician's preferences, to give you guidance on the is and outs of your paperwork. All we can say really is what is required by the regs, that every altered circuit must be tested and certificated, be it on separate certs or multi circuit certs.

Does anyone else charge separately for minor works certs. Surly, as mentioned previously, any work carried out should be tested and certified.

Certificates should follow the format of the IET model forms.
As such a MEIWC which allows for more than one circuit does not comply with BS7671.
If it is the intention to record details for more than one circuit on a single certificate, an EIC is required.

Which are to be found in Appendix 6 (Informative) (BGB)

i.e. NOT REGULATION! :)
