Had a call from a new customer, boiler not working. British Gas attended, not a gas problem said electrics. I attended. Work from the boiler to FCU, no power, FCU to CU, no power, CU to DNO supply terminal, no power. At this point customer tells me DNO has just changed the meter. Tweek cables in terminal and boiler works. Tighten said terminals. Boiler now working according to specs. ( Customer has been supplied with a report on what has been found). Customer called me approx 1945. I attended approx 2000. (Valentines Day)(God i'm quick, but my beloved will kill me"""""Yes Dear""""""). Boiler and electric shower working by 20.30.

Are you telling us that at 7.45pm the customer didn't know that they had no power to the house?? Must have been in complete darkness with no lights, ...or anything else come to that!! So what terminals did you tweak, and where??

Sorry, 2 DB's. 1 rewire-able, 2nd mcb's. Mcb board running shower, boiler, heating etc. So lights, tv, microwave etc still working. Not till it got cold that a problem was noticed. Customers not Numptys (Doctors, yea ok).
Just in general,,,,,,, how much. Valentines Day and out of hours.

Just your out of hours rate. Valentines day doesn't attract a 'premium'. Bank holidays do.

valentines day has nothing to do with price, if you didn't want to attend someone else would of. You can't charge customers more because you have something on at that time,.. or it's your birthday.usually you tell customers a minimal charge before you get there as it is your normal hourly rate.

What is your normal "call out" rate? Should be at least £40 - £50 IMHO

Some people have a high hourly rate with no call-out, and some have a call-out. I'd charge £50 for that if it wasn't far to travel.

Yes mate ive sorted that for you, now you do know it's valentines day so it's twice the normal rate lol...

I might try using that one...or hello, yes we can come and have a look at the fault for you. I'm going to send bill, it is his birthday so it's an extra £40 on top...lol

It looks like my price was about right then, £60. The loose terminals were in a junction box next to the meter but before the 2 DB's. No cut out switch between the meter and junction box so was working live and very carefully.

I agree with you all that Valentines Day shouldn't make any difference and it didn't, I shouldn't have mentioned it on here. When I first spoke to the customer I advised him of my out of hours callout and that that would cover the first hour, the customer said ok to that.
