hi, been using MK for the past 4 months as I have been doing a big council kitchen contract and I just want to say that MK are rubbish. The terminal screws on the DP switches and fused spurs take about half an hour to tighten and as for the 2 way switches joke!

Just wondered what you guys views were? Think I'm gonna turn to GET on private jobs :)

We only ever use them when specified ie Schools.

I've noticed MK boards seem cheap and plastic nowadays not a patch on Crabtree, Hager or the like

Think the CUs are only cheap when they are part of a bundle, Screwfix for an example. I buy empty MK boards and fit RCBs from Electrical Components Direct and the quality is fine.

MK switches are rubbish, its the terminal that put me off, although I think they have the best FCUs as all terminals line up and are a doddle to terminate cable into.

Use GET, now Schneider on some jobs but if customer want something a little more modern, their smooth edged stuff is ridiculously overpriced.

The last 3 jobs, which have been kitchens, i've used Click mode sockets and switches. Good thing here is you can use their mini grid stuff so i great for kitchens when you want to install isolators for the appliances

The Hager sollysta range seem really good they are well worth a try!

Have to agree there, and price wise they are cheaper than MK too.

Been paying £1.78 +VAT for the Hager Sollysta 2 Gang 13A Socket, compared to about £2.95 +VAT for MK Logic from TLC (and that is supposedly a special offer)

Amp David...

Give the Hager FCUs a try, £2.44 +VAT compared to £5.75 +VAT (TLC MK pricing). Easy termination is one thing, but it ain't worth double the cost :biggrin5:

I like the design of the MK accessories. But as the OP said terminations are pants.
I've stopped carrying them on the van and gone on to Crabtree gear instead. MILES better !!

A lot of positive remarks regarding crabtree
Consumer units, yes, they are very good
Sockets?
Personally, if it was in my power,I would have them banned

They are utter complete trash. The grip on the ultra short depth ensures that they make a connection that my Mrs would be happy with if she didn't wont to get pregnant, screw em as hard as you will, and withdrawal is still easy

MK consumer units are my choice, they aren't pretty but they are good in all other areas

Blimey, I'm not paying that much for them.

Its a pain as no where local to me do Hager and they don't want to seem to go to the hassle to get it in either

As a preference I use Hager boards and Click accessories. Yes, Logik is nice to fit because of the backed-off terminals etc, but it's not worth paying twice as much for, and their boards are just plain butt ugly and the covers are a pain to fit, too.
