hi, been using MK for the past 4 months as I have been doing a big council kitchen contract and I just want to say that MK are rubbish. The terminal screws on the DP switches and fused spurs take about half an hour to tighten and as for the 2 way switches joke!

Just wondered what you guys views were? Think I'm gonna turn to GET on private jobs :)

Just fitted a crabtree starbreaker CU over the last day and half, 13 way. I have to say that i find they have plenty of room and somehow more room around the back of the breakers etc. Only problem was, when i tested the 63A RCD it failed on the 0deg cycle every time i tested it. was a real shame because it was going so well up until then and not a stray neutral in sight. The replacement worked fine but cost ÂŁ36 to buy there and then. I'm putting it down to a one off for now!!

It’s years since I’ve done the odd bit of domestic work, I used to swear by MK. The plugs and sockets were the very best. They could handle full load without any heating.

I’m surprised by what your saying. But Oh Well, another bubble burst!

We use a lot of MK...
Sockets..very good.

FCU's...awful,but they have screwed fuse carriers which dont go missing in schools.

Plate switches...your screwdriver has to be perfect to undo the terminal screws which have been done up by a sumo wrestler on steroids, slightly worn driver and you will either round off the slot,or push so hard the guts of the switch distort and seize.

Masterseal....the best

We use crabtree starbreaker CU's almost exclusively and have never had a problem with any part of them.

Dislike MK white accessories..!

Currently Fit BG/Crabtree

The BG Cu in B&Q is good value! sturdy built and looks ok on the eye..! much prefere Eaton CU though as cant be purchased in Screw fix and the like..! and yes i also fit the ECD RCBO's in to a Empty MK enclosure (also fitted Pro guard and TD Line) although ECD seem to be slightly better quality

Had a good look inside a British General CU in B&Q today. Fully popped, 10 MCBs, 2 RCD, seemed as good as the last MK I bought.

ÂŁ50 inc VAT! May go back and buy a few.

That will go down well when the client sees B&Q boxes coming out your van ! Its a slippery slope mate, you will be getting sockets from wilkinsons next. :)

Blimey, I'm not paying that much for them.

Its a pain as no where local to me do Hager and they don't want to seem to go to the hassle to get it in either

Yeah sorry, its the headline price. I never know what TLC are going to charge me until I actually go in there.

Regarding Hager, Google 'Starlec'. They are the cheapest I've found for the Sollysta gear.

Stopped using MK years ago when they started manufacturing sockets with that twist shutter on the live and neutral and you could push a 2 pin plug in to them, they were dropped from a lot of specs in favour of Crabtree because of this. I find the quality of accessories is a bit hit and miss these days as price seems to override quality

fitted 3 MK RCBOs the other day..1 16A and 2 32A...one of the 32s failed in 1x and 5x...straight outa the box....pain...and those terminal screws have like a threadlocking compound on em i think..hence the tightness of em......agree about the FCUs though.....like the way the terminations all line up so you aint searchin for incoming and outgoing (which can be all over the place on some others)...and the captive fusecovers on em n all......

oh...!

you can also buy the same CU in many well branded electrical wholesale outlets for higher price..!!

IMO its a well stocked and built CU ideal for the "lesser of society" AKA landlord rentals!!

i don't really care what people say but when im changing 3-4 a month for 1 landlord at ÂŁ250 a pop they are a bargain. keep my nice shiny EATON for my well deserving customers.
