i disagree here, its better for young people to have respect for others in the first place. didnt u respect teachers/police before u got to know them.
sounds like ur son had the right idea to begin with.
Everyone to their own opinions. It all depends on your interpretation of respect. I class it as "someone you look up to or admire".
I may have had the "respect your elders" opinion when I was very young, but I don't remember. Some teachers I respected. They were good teachers and if you messed with them you got hit with a strap or something. They had my respect. Others were just thick and used to belt you when you corrected them. Where is the respect there..... Police.. a hard one. I know a few. Most are great people, really friendly and helpful. Tbelthen there are others that you wouldn't trust as far as you can pee against the wind... Such is society today that the minority spoil if for the majority.... You always hear about dodgy cops but hardly about the good ones that to great things.
Phil d. My comment wasn't mean to have come across as an argument and I'm sorry if it did. It was just my opinion. As stated earlier I class respect as "someone you look up to or admire", we should be polite to everyone, if we respect them or not.
