Just curious really!

I had to cut some a few years ago. Today while reading 7671 I got to a section about it and it reminded me of the nightmare I'd had trying to go through the armour.

What does everyone here use to cut the stuff?

luckilly ive only ever removed and replaced paper leads look like a nightmare.

hacksaw, ratchet cutters or hydraulic pump with cutting head to cut the swa....hacksaw or juniour for the armourings.

i personally dont use tape a jubilee or cable tie myself i just try not to twist or move the swa to keep a nice straight cut through the armours and just take my time. one thing i do use for the larger swas is a piece of copex to form the shape of the cable for an accurate point to cut the armourings for the gland so when you feed the cable in it should be smack on

The cable size rules whether or not I’d use a jubilee.

I’ve done a lot of diverting old cables and remaking them off. If a 50 year old .3” cable doesn’t want to move it takes some doing. Warming the cable up helped but you got covered with tar from the hessian. I’ve resorted to railway sleepers and chain blocks in desperation.
50 year old it may have been but when you start making it off it’s like the day it was first made.

Here's some of it. I do parts of it differently and better IMO.

I was laughing that much watching that video that I set fire to my beard lighting a smoke!
Who is that Muppet? I could do a better job blindfolded with an axe!

like i said never done a paper lead term but have removed them and jointed them etc but the older sparks i know always sing their praises in all fairness, i do make off a lot of large cables and as you said certain techniques are priceless when it comes down to it chain blocks are worth their weight in gold fair play

At final termination, then always by hacksaw with a new sharp good blade. Rough cutting to size, ...a grinder or other quick means of getting rid of any pulled in excess cable.
