Hi, I’m a 31 year old mother of two- who decided on a career change in 2019. I completed NVQ level 1 and 2 in college and landed an apprentice job to finish up my full qualification. The job site is close to home for me - the main office is an hour away. Anyways I’m about 2 month away from completing but the job is moving 1 and a half hours away and I just can’t do it. I have two young children and I already work 7am until 5pm all week and miss so much time with them already. I understand this is part of the job but I’m not willing to loose more time with them.

Does anyone know what my options are? I met a self employed electrician who worked with our company who now has his own business but not enough work to put me on full time. Although he is willing to put my name down as an employee and I can work with him for about 16 hours a week. I was going to get another job on the side for around 16 - 20 hours until I’m out of my time then I have options at a nuclear plant near me (they can’t take me until AM2 is complete) the other option was to ask college if all my paper work is complete am I able to pay for the AM2 and do it myself ? Just wanted opinions here. Thanks if you got this far.

Bump. Hopefully someone else has been here?

I returned to the industry for a short while, and go some training with one of the private training providers. If you college can't answer your question, you could enquire with one of them perhaps.
