Discuss How worried should I be? in the Solar PV Forum | Solar Panels Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

As already mentioned by Tel, looking at that standard of workmanship I'd be checking the entire installation and preparing a full snag list.

Thats appalling. If he hasnt even screwed the meter cover back properly has he screwed the terminals tight? They could be Arcing and you are on the verge of a fire.Demand they come back immediately or report them without delay

That is criminally dangerous and beneath the realms of an idiot. You have to report that to both providing schemes before they kill somebody!

Looking at those tails they have all the hallmarks of being secondhand, the damage looks likes they have been forceable removed from a previous installation.
Ben

Where did you find him? Was he recommended? Did he provide certification for the new installation? That shoddy workmanship is an insult to a paying customer. Makes you wonder if he is qualified. On the evidence presented I would say not.

Thanks everyone for your ongoing views - it's extremely helpful to me as a consumer (who thinks it looks unacceptable!) to get the opinions of people who know so much more.

I'd love to 'name and shame', and will have no reservation in doing so if it proves appropriate, but I only wrote to bring this to their attention today when I found it, so I'll give them a couple of days next week to get their act together and see what their response is like.

I can say though, that they are a REAL and MCS registered getup (I've checked), and I received a NAPIT Electrical Certificate for this work by their electrician?!

"As already mentioned by Tel, looking at that standard of workmanship I'd be checking the entire installation and preparing a full snag list."

I've looked at everything else and it looks fine, but then I wouldn't know the finer details of what could be wrong.

If they are a decent sized outfit and they don't respond within a few days give them a call and speak to the head honcho, invite him round to comment on the installation but tell him that if he doesn't you intend to report the matter to NAPIT, REAL and MCS. Might be worthwhile to mention the local newspapers too.
There's nowt like a bit of fear to focus people's minds
