Alright chaps ,

ive recently got a contract with a big building firm doing extensions and house renovations . Currently on a job at the moment that has run 12 weeks over ( not just electrics all work ) . It's a huge project and currently coming to
the end of 2nd fixing . About a week ago I advised the customer not to turn on any of the power as works were still not completed and That there were open ends in the loft . I locked the fuse boards off , however when I came to job next day the lock was broken off and all circuits were on . I told the customer this was dangerous and out of order and explained the risks he also has children running round the house and the socket faces etc are all off the wall .

Things now get worse as he refused to make a stage payment to the builder so we all got pulled of site for a week or so until they negotiated some payment . This was sorted and I then went back. I sorted all circuits out and done a test on ring and lights etc and everything was clear and working . Next day I came back and some of the neutrals in the consumer unit were loose and there was a fault on a lighting circuit and on the ring main . I asked customer if anyone had been messing with the board and he denied it . I found the faults ( neutral to earth on ring after socket was screwed on and the neutral got caught this was done by him , and lighting fault was where he had put spots up and used the switch wire as a neutral . Today I turned up and he has installed a socket that was on my list to do and there was no earth sleeve connected .

I walked off the job today as I'm furious with what is happening . Problem is I'm owed 2k and also I want more work from the builder . If this was my own private work I would walk away from the job as my work is being tampered with . What do you guys suggest I'm in a horrible situation here . Plus they are treating myself and the lads like **** and talking to us like were dirt . Any advice would be good , sorry for the long drawn out post

Once the electrics are in legally you cannot tamper with them unfortunately the law is on the side of this thriving er person I have had this sort of carp a lot when I was younger then the next one is really good so they are not all the same just most of them . The above letter is an excellent idea in the first instance , also leave a couple of to do,s things that you know have to be done but someone else looking for them will find it hard so he has to spend some money
If possible speak to the owner tell him what your gonna do tomorrow to the inch then put it in writing and e mail him
My very first job when I advertised was exactly the same took him to court he had a bloody barrister ripped me to shreds
But I can now look back and think oh well but at the time I was stressed.
As other people say it will come to an end , I have had the same with a builder being knocked , as he was a good guy and I got work from him I took a loss as well
Swings and roundabouts mate ,but just don't lose your temper and at the end of the day your the better man and always will be

In future I suggedt you get a bullet proof contract drawn up, without one you up the shi$er.

Had the same in Chester some years back, they kept changing locations of sockets etc and didn't want to pay anyway they had an electric velux window and it only had one rain sensor on it and it was in the wrong position,I told them but they thought they knew best anyway they went out one night leaving the velux open, there was torrential rain something like 2 inches in an hour.Unfortunately the rain came from the "wrong" direction in relation to the sensor and when they came home the whole house was flooded, they even had a waterfall coming down the stairs.I like to think it was divine justice,I still chuckle about it even now.

an old work mate worked for a couple that kept changing there minds.

the lucky basted got paid for each change though and was there weeks overdue

if they pray go to their place of worship and when they come out approach him and ask politely for a quick word. they dont like getting getting a red neck in front of their elders. it worked for me, bit of a hassle but it was worth it

Tell him your calling up for your money at a certain time at his place of work, when you do pull up with a car load of boys, drive up to the front door and just look in at him, let him come to you, if you have to get out of the car make sure to "embarrass" him.
