What is the rating of that junction box although there is no sign of overheating is it ratted a 40 amps if not then i would give that a code 2 , as fot heaters on sockets i have seen overheating of sockets due to the constant high load normally with cheeper sockets , if ok i would not code it

Clive is that Socket on the fixed window frame or the actual window? I have an amazing image of a massive loop of slack hidden out of sight so that someone can still open and close the window whilst using the socket.

Its fixed to the frame so that the window could still be opened. That said the place is so cold, I can't imagine, that even on a very hot day, that it would ever be "hot" and theres a massive door one end and at the other end low level opening windows!

I reckon those 2.5mms need fusing down at the point where the CSA decreases. C3.

Are you saying one end of the ring is fed by the 32A MCB, the other would be fed by the 20A breaker if it didn't appear to be broken? I reckon a bit of further investigation could be required there.

I don't see that the socket needs coding. Yes it's rough, the sort of thing a DIYer would do, but in a commercial property it's not likely to be used by anyone with restricted reach.

The MCBs on those lighting circuits need changing. C2.

If it's what I'm thinking of those Gewiss boards are horrible to wire - they're basically just a plastic box. Do you have a picture of it?

Hum.... I checked the continuity of the "ring" when I established that the end taken out of the "broken" MCB was live! - so the ring is OK with a couple of spurs.

Got the go ahead today to change the sockets to S FCU's today and I will also change the 20A to a 32A so the ring is OK. The other "improvements" will need to be discussed further as they are move involved and I simply don't have time to deal with it for a few weeks.

Happy days - a decent customer who listens to to a competent person, acts on the advice given and doesn't quibble about the monies.

Has the 32A MCB stopped tripping since you took the other end of the ring out of the 20A MCB?

The 32A was so knackered it won't even reset. I have it here now and it won't reset! The ring is now in a 20A !

Got to go through my stock to see which other makes fit

Sorry, I should have re-read the original post.
I had a callout to one of those the other day - I took the breaker out and it reset sometimes, until I tapped the side of it, then it tripped.

True. Although I'd hazard a guess that things like woodworm treatment are probably chemically quite similar? Don't know.
