Anyone else got a habit of trying help everyone and end up flat out working m every second of the day....?

Moving out my flat and I told the landlord his house needs rewiring in the near future.
He asked me if I could do it and I agreed. Let’s just say this weekend has been fun trying to rewire a “lived in” flat. Absolute nightmare...... wish I could just say no!

Extensions leads all over the place

I learnt the ability to say no, or give a realistic date for the works, a little while ago. Trouble still is as a sole trader I have some very good folk that give me regular work that I just have to find ways to squeeze in.

Lived in rewired I don't do. Even less likely if it's me living in it, have said to the wife time and again I'll get something done, no need for her to remind me every 6 months.

I need to grow a backbone when people call up.
It’s just hard when you know the next job is the earner... then 2 weeks later the my all want them completed at the same time

I would rather work all day, then do a couple of little jobs at night for a fortnight straight, cos I know next month there could be sod all for days at a time.

Just say "no"...
trust me, it took me 30 years to learn that...
say "no" right away, as soon as you feel it coming on...
It's a sign of strength!
If you do eventually say yes, you have covered your --- a bit...and can maneouvre the job and the price.
Deep breath...
"Sorry, but I'm going to have to say no"
and don't back down! get that "No!" out there, and stick to it!

My next clinic, "How to refuse another drink, and yet still get it" will air sometime next week!

Extension leads on reels should be fully unwound. I don’t know what the load is on that one, but the cable will heat, melt and catch fire.

I agree good advice.

“ Do you want a drink?”

Small loading on it not going to be worried about that. Fair point though.
It’s for my wireless router and my battery chargers
Most seem to rate it around 3A if not unwound. It's pretty much always written on the extension coil what it's rated at fully unwound and not unwound.
