ok im choosing a new career path, I am 24 and I am looking to train as an electrician, i am quite knowledgeable in electrics as i have rewired my own house with a qualified electrician overseeing my work and then testing off etc.. anyway i really enjoyed doing it and i am looking to further this into a career would anyone be able to tell me where i start as in qualifications what is my first step thank you,, chad

Check for available courses at your local construction college, pop in to see them, and take it from there. This will take longer than the below option, but at least you can work also, and more importantly have half a chance of digesting information and asking questions. This would be my approach, but I'm not you.

Or

Complete an expensive short course that allegedly qualifies you for domestic work, aka "house bashing". Many disapprove of this option (myself included), but it does serve a purpose to get you into the electrical industry (be prepared to tack some flack though).

Hope this helps

Really enjoyed lifting floorboards up and chasing walls out?

The best route as said above is enrolling on your local college course and do one of the City & Guilds courses and try and get some work experience from a local electrical contractor. It will be hard because there are loads of other people trying to get in the industry.

You might have left it a bit late, collage courses run from September to July normally,

I fear you may have missed to much of this year already.

Your looking at a minimum of 3 years 1 day a week or 2 nights a week,

two years level 2, one year level 3, then another year doing your NVQ.

Good luck.
