Hi, just wondering if anyone can tell me what is wrong with my plan, i want a shaver socket in my bathroom, my thoughts were that a wire could be taken off a plug socket in the bedroom up the wall then through the single brick internal wall into an isolator switch that would be neatly next to the extractor fan isolator (presumably a rcd or rcbo in a box?), then wired down the wall and behind the skirting board to then be vertically channeled up to the shaver socket.

so I'm thinking that this is a relatively small job and should be fairly cheap, I'm redecorating the bathroom as it is so there are no skirting boards and i can do the channel and there is no making good for the sparky to worry about as this will be done anyway.

so anyway the reason I'm asking is because i had a guy come round and do me a quote for the job, i told him my thoughts but he muttered a bit and he has now quoted me for bringing a separate wire from the cellar cu and putting the switch isolator in the corridor (which i don't mind), but this seems like an expensive way around my job and seems like he is creating work for himself. I can't see a problem with my plan but don't want to accuse him of trying to rip me off and end up looking like an idiot.

power for the shaver socket cant come from the light circuit btw, as the ceiling is not very accessible.

so, whats your thoughts? Am i missing something or am i being taken for a ride?

geordie. that's a classic " make a few quid" job. get his quote in writing, get the go-ahead from your insurers, build it yourself, and you're ÂŁ1600 up minus the cost of materials.

I mean .... it can't be THAT hard to build a wall can it??

It's only a few bricks and a bit of cement innit???????

And what do you need with a spirit level anyway??????????
yeah...it is

It's the driver's insurers that are paying and they've asked me to get 2 estimates. So far only one builder has obliged and here's the funny thing: They all bleat that they're short of work !!

This is the second time in 3 years that this wall has been knocked down due to cars skidding on ice - and both times it was a woman driver from the same street at the top of the road AND they are both insured by the same company.

hmm...well their short of summat...

geordie, i'm ashamed at you. you have a pc. you can knock up a letterhead with a mate's address etc. do a quote for ÂŁ1450, insurers accept it, get yourself and a mate to do it . collect ÂŁ1450.

aye..for what its worth.....
mind you...i`d put a half decent electrician up against `bob` or old wetpants anyday

It's a well known fact time served sparks have a 7% larger brain than Plumbers and a 9% larger brain than unskilled men, the 2% difference from the plumber to the unskilled workman is apparently due to tea? tests have shown the plumber spends 6.8 weeks per year drinking tea, the unskilled workman only 6 weeks, the electrician barely 2 weeks however the lack of tea for the electrician is made up in brain cells which is the main difference, apparently doctors have suggested thinking about what your doing counteracts the lack of standing around talking crap and tea drinking, well who would argue with them
