Hi every one
im 43 and to be honest I've had 15 years supervising electrical
projects
ive had enough and I want to start teaching in the London area
please can anyone help me?
I got into teaching last July. I am 49 and crawling about in lofts, under floors, and chopping out engineering brick lost its appeal. So i sent a few speculative emails with my CV attached and got lucky.
Generally the colleges will be looking for someone with the right life skills and suitable experience (at 43 you will have both) and some good qualifications. I have C&G 2377, 2381, 2391, ONC electrical engineering. If you have the Assessor A award in assessing competance in the workplace and PTLLS it helps, but dont let it put you off if you haven't. I didnt have either, but the college i work at are putting me through it at the moment.
I started doing the NVQ level 1 and 2, which is easy to teach as the technical content is basic, so this allows you to concentrate on the instructing/assessing part of the job. I now also deliver the C&G courses, and will be delivering the new C&G 2394 and 2395 from this month. To be able to deliver the courses you must hold the qualification.
There must be a few college's / training institutions in and around London which you can approach.
Good luck and keep us informed.
Cheers..........Howard
