Sorry can't see it elsewhere suprised if not here yet !

Been told by Elecsa that it is now compulsory so client has to pay for insurance wether they want to or not (or you can swallow the cost in your profits if you want).

I thought it was illegal to force people to pay for insurance they may not want ? i.e. PPI and extended warranties.

I've had enough of it now and will not be renewing my membership next year why should we have to keep paying for the nanny state.

Take it you mean insurance backed warranty? With elecsa it cost you the contractor nothing. It is also down to client wether they want it or not, it is not compulsory. And as you the contractor are not a financial/ insurance adviser under no circumstance should you offer any advice one way or another…ie PPI claims

Elecsa's bumping up the cost of notifications as contractor have to pay it from next year i think

I have recieved a letter and Email from Elecsa and i have also Emailed elecsa asking for confirmation that this 'Insurance' is now compulsory and it will add approx ÂŁ1.50 to every job notification.

Why should I provide a warranty at my own cost I'm not an insurance salesman, and I have no training or knowledge of insurance warranties so have no right to be selling them.look what's happening regarding ppi miss selling

The introduction of the mandatory IBW will be towards the end of March 2013 and we will continue to keep you updated on progress to make sure you have plenty of notice about these changes. No other Part P related fees will be changing in 2013. If you have any questions about the mandatory IBW please contact us on 0333 321 8220 or email [email protected].

This is part of the letter i have received.I was under the impression they failed last year trying to introduce this as it meant we Electricians would have to be insurance salesmen and you cant do that unless you are a member of the fsa ?

I understand what you are saying as to why is there a new additional cost that was not there before, and the fact that you have no choice in the matter, but what other way could they apply it? It is insurance to the customer that if your "the installer and notifiers" work is not complient or if you go out of business that their notified work will be rectified at no extra cost to themselves. Asking the consumer to directly pay IMO does not promote confidence so I just pay it myself and incorporate it within my costs.

It could not be a yearly fee because that would favour DI's who carry out many more notifications.

I think that short courses are alot to blame to be able to gain a DI qualification.

The reason why they have passed the cost over is "maybe" because they have been stung by non compliances.

Just my opinion..............Tin hat at the ready :helmet:
