Sorry can't see it elsewhere suprised if not here yet !

Been told by Elecsa that it is now compulsory so client has to pay for insurance wether they want to or not (or you can swallow the cost in your profits if you want).

I thought it was illegal to force people to pay for insurance they may not want ? i.e. PPI and extended warranties.

I've had enough of it now and will not be renewing my membership next year why should we have to keep paying for the nanny state.

Under no circumstance can we 'sell' IBWs as we are not FSA registered as has been stated. It just looks like elecsa are now charging us to download a leaflet and deliver it to a potential customer for the insurance company and is a great excuse to put up price of notification

How are you selling it if it is you that pays for it?

I am just a one man band and pretty much 'winding down' now but still need to earn a crust or two.I have always guaranteed my work for 'life' if any one has ever asked me,any problems i have always sorted not that ive had to do much of that i am pleased to say.My problem with this is a matter of principle but most importantly that it was thought to be illegal re; ppi scandal etc.

I'm not paying for the insurance the client would be if they wanted it, I would be paying for the privilege of downloading the pamphlet printing it and delivering it and therefore could be seen as selling it to them, especially if I gave them any advice.…

Mountains out of molehills? Stick ÂŁ1.50 on the price of the job and business as usual. I appreciate that this approach doesn't really facilitate incessant whinging on the internet with the blame ultimately being layed at the door of the five week wonder somewhere around page 5, but really, this is not a big deal.

I am with the NICEIC and when I notify a job the IBW is automatically included with no option to remove it, so no buying or selling it is compulsary

Exactly but you may choose to add that to the cost of your work as 'overheads' and so the customer pays for insurance that is how the ppi scam started.
Previously that fell foul of the law so i'd like to know whats changed and how come Electricians can now sell insurance ?

But do you not then pass onto the client a IBW leaflet, which if they're interest, they will then call the insurance company to arrange and pay for the warranty? In effect you are then acting as an intermediary/ broker the same as the banks were doing during PPI miss selling… at least that's how I see it

The point is it was previously declared illegal for Electricians to 'sell' insurance unless you are a member of the fsa

So we buy a new car that is covered by a manufacturers warranty.....do you think that this is not covered by some form of insurance policy?

Do you also think that the cost of this is not incompassed within the cost you pay for the car?
