Hello guys
Just like with the black cab companies being stabbed in the back with back door policies allowing Uber to side line a skilled industry I got to thinking....

Can anyone remember sparking in domestics before part P was introduced and would it be foolish to draw parallels with the back cab and the Electricians industry being contradicted by allowing back door kitchen fitters into our world?

To be honest i have always found part P very confusing as i have a lovely JIB card and a government apprenticeship yet i need to pay a private company to tell me i have done a 5 year apprenticeship correctly.

It would be nice to think that someone in the position to do so, would ask the people who know, what they would actually do to make things fair and safe - it only take balls and communication to try and make that change and why not do it now UNLESS they don't think anything is wrong!

Yes part P is a con to try to get money from qualified sparkies . I had an apprentice with EEB & have certificates from JIB as an accredited Installation Electrician & a City & Guilds Certificate. When Part P came I asked at a large DIY shed how it would effected their sales of Electric showers, Consumer Units & external sockets etc & was told it dosnt apply to work carried out in your home so I didnt have anything to do with Part P.

Unfortunately this was not set up right from day one now we have 5 or more schemes employing assessors office staff etc. I remember being a house bashing apprentice in the 1980's there was (apart from the ECA) the NICEIC who was respected in the industry for the upkeep of standards and compliance with the regs. Just like GasSafe is today it needs something where the all electricians are assessed eg every 5 years minimum for example tied in with the H & S assessment ECS card this would entitle part P registration compliance notification for a small fee each notification there could be then something like the approved contractor scheme for companies and those doing commercial/more involved scope of works.
