Just a minor gripe...In the mire on an emergency this week, and had to visit CEF as no-one else had a 240v 16a appliance inlet...on the counter is a variety box of twist-nuts. "New product,fella..." well,it's not..."BS numbered, tested and approved.." the sales minion chirps, "And who uses these in preference to other, superior products?" i ask, "Well, lots of electricians have been asking for them..." So,my question is simple. Who are you? And,in the eventuality of a professional coughing, get ready for the "why?" :stooge_curly:

The good thing about using a central junction box like the j701 is you can take all your cables back to one place , mark each cable as to where it goes , any future fault finding is easy and above all you're not installing 3 cables as on 3 plate to each light fitting , as there is no space on most fittings to terminate 3 cables . testing is easier . you just have to make sure its accessible , usually installed on a wall in a cupboard preferably central to the area served...

Although I dare say a nice din rail unit with din rail connectors would also be good too...

I got some of these as freebies at elex 2yrs ago still not used any on a job, had a go with them but was not convinced at all!

Only thing the yanks are concerned about is speed on the job, I've met a few tradesmen like that here ......
Usually when putting their thrown in jobs right!

Too many firms doing work for peanuts putting pressure on blokes usually means its a bit shoddy in my book I'm yet to be proven wrong on this!
So the salesmens job is easy all they have to say is it saves time....
You never hear them say with this product it takes a bit longer but it'll last and be done properly!

On a job last year and main M&E firm was BBES. Their policy was every bare wire had to have one of these twist connectors on throughout the job until final termination.

They wern't used as a joint but as a safety feature by twisting Live, Neutral and Earth together and fitting the twist nut in the event of the circuit energising the circuit breaker would trip.

It was the first time I had ever seen them and thought this was the intended purpose until reading this thread about them being a joint.

These we're the ones

They'd obviously never heard of what normally happens?
Oh bugger I need to lie down now because my head hurts. Who comes up with this crap?

I think Ideal are being a bit optimistic looking for a UK market for wirenuts. However they will sell to the naive and credulous and I keep hearing that there's more than a handful in the trade these days. Scruits were of their time, and that time has passed. Even so, they had two advantages over US-style wirenuts - they didn't contain a little spiral heating element and they couldn't melt!

Other than coming loose and burning out, could whoever takes up RMC86's original challenge please explain what they can do that lever Wagos don't...

They do have a place but not in general domestic and commercial installations. We use them on VHT connections for ceramic bead insulated elements in kins etc, I wouldn't however use the in my house.
