Lads I have decided to give up my business as trying to source work is getting to hard and getting paid for the work I do is getting even harder.

I have a interview next week for a position as a maintenance Electrician in a hospital here in Dublin.
It would be quite a good job if I got it.
My only concern is its years since I have had to do a interview

On the application form where it listed skills needed part of it it said "To test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system."

Now I have no problem with voltmeters, ohmmeters etc but I have never used a oscilloscope nor do I know how to use one.
Has anyone here used one or can give me advice, just in case I am asked in the interview.

Good luck with the interview mate. If you get the job and they have got an old scope talk them into getting you a Fluke scopemeter, you wont want to put it down, proper boys toys.

If you can't get your head around it in time, just say 'well, really I've only needed to know if something is running at 50hZ or not so far, so that's all I would have used one for, but I'm familliar with them and can use new test intruments every day sometimes. What model are you using?' they will either go 'I don't know' and move on quickly, or go 'the oscilloson 2000', in which case you can go 'I'm not familliar with that particular model, but give me half an hour with the manual and I'll be fine'. IT'S A WIN WIN!

My advice would be to find out plenty about the hospital too - patient numbers, budgets, if the hospital reports to a "trust" as such, whether they have any plans to expand and things like that - can help conversation flow in an interview and also shows you have taken an interest in the hospital, not just the job.

I went for an interview recenlty and failed :( but only due to not having enough experience (up against another interal candidate who has been here 3 times as long as me! Quite daunting as it was the first interview in almost 10 years, but I relaxed, spoke clearly and showed my knowledge. Got good feedback, but there was a better candidate on the day - which I can cope with!
