Lads I have decided to give up my business as trying to source work is getting to hard and getting paid for the work I do is getting even harder.

I have a interview next week for a position as a maintenance Electrician in a hospital here in Dublin.
It would be quite a good job if I got it.
My only concern is its years since I have had to do a interview

On the application form where it listed skills needed part of it it said "To test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system."

Now I have no problem with voltmeters, ohmmeters etc but I have never used a oscilloscope nor do I know how to use one.
Has anyone here used one or can give me advice, just in case I am asked in the interview.

Went well, wasn't asked anyting about Oscilloscopes!

Was given a few Electrical diagrams though and asked the fault in each!
Got them all after a bit of sweating, normally I would have got the answer in a few seconds but under that pressure it took me a few minutes to find the problem.

One for example was a schematic of a electrical control circuit, with the Neutral connected to the fuse instead of the live, might sound like a easy spot but it took me a minute or two to see it.

They seemed happy enough with me though and I will find out on friday if I get it.
Anyone have any idea of the rates for a maintenance electrician? I know a normal sparks here in Ireland gets something like €22 an hour which is about £19 in sterling.

Sounds like you are in the right ball park with hourly rate. I get ÂŁ17 plus 15% shift allowance. This is within the automotive industry. No overtime or bonuses now as you will well understand. I am based in Derby.
Anyway good luck.:)

I had an interview the other month (I'm ----ed off too ) ...anyhow great sounding job, similar mons as i'm making self employed, no tools needed!...yep that's for me. Just hand out jobs, then check ok, then issue payments, check quotes etc etc ..

Kin ell they needed my previous employers reffs, all of em...I explained, previous I've been self employed 15 years...no bother, still apply. Lying bahstewards, they just want the numbers for a pre-arranged job...as I found out later
