Think I maybe dragging this one up again but I've got a query that I haven't found an answer to after scanning through the last 14 pages. If an immersion heater is permitted to be on a 13A FCU then what is wrong with having other equipment on the circuit?

For example, what about a small electric underfloor heating system (about 400w for the sake of argument). We already know that the circuit is rated at 16A, the cable will handle this current and then some and the total demand will be 14.78A at a supply voltage of 230V. Can anyone supply me with a regulation that states this is not allowed. Also I tend to find that in most modern houses the immersion supply is there purely as a back up in the event of a boiler failure which adds more reasons as to why supplying additional items from this supply should be acceptable practice.

As far as I know there is no specific regulation, but app 15 (ring and radial circuits) states loads over 2kw should be on a dedicated radial circuit.

I have in the past got over this when the immersion is backup only,by running the supply through a 20a 2way grid switch used as a changeover. On a job I am on at the moment the Imm htr circuit runs either the Immersion or underfloor heating, but not both at the same time......obviously this arrangement is only practical if the Imm htr is not the main source of hot water and the client understands they cant use both together.

well my jacuzzi pump ( a few watts or so ) is fed from the immersion heater FCU . it still mangles your goolies even when the immersion is on so it's staying there.
