Hi there, this is my first post, so hello :)

I need some help as i am not getting anywere.

I have my wing mirrors that are power fold, there are x2 wires, 1x blue and 1x white, if i put 12v+ to the blue and earth on white, they fold up, 12v+ to white and earth to blue they fold up.

What i am after is some form of relay system that will switch between polarity's as i dont want to install a manual switch, is there such a unit or item that can help me with this.

Maby some thing where if i supply power to one side of the unit it will be normal, then power to the other it will switch over?

Ryan.

Ryan,
Can't view piccy at the mo as I am at work and we have filters on system. Will have a look when I get home. The clicking will probably be some form of mechanical limit which breaks the circuit to the motor drive for the direction its traveling at the time. Once the motor has stopped it will not be drawing current so there should be no problem. The connections for the relay assuming you have the one from RS is as follows.
0-Earth.
1-Switched + from ignition.
2- link to 7
3-White to mirror.
4-Permanent + fused.
6-link to 3
7-Blue to mirror.
8-Permanent -(neg)

As you dont know current rating of mirrors I would suggest wiring one up first and using clampmeter(dc) check current used. Double it for both mirrors and fit relevant fuse once completed.

Hi steve, i think you have covered every thing mate, i have orderd the relay from the link you gave me steve.

Thanks for the info so far you have helped me out a lot :)

2nd question, how easy would it be to wire in a ' override switch ' in to this before the relay, the only thing is if oneday i had to get down a very tight gap and need the mirrors to fold up while the ign is on, i could flick a push type button maby, any idears on this and how it would be wired in next to the relay steve?

Again many thanks for the help so far :)

Ryan.

To close the mirror while the ignition is on, the live wire to terminal 1 needs to go through a switch (button or lever)
Switch on and the mirrors work as they should and when switched off the mirrors close even with Ign. on.

Confusing now Ryan mate. If igniton off how you gonna drive through a tight space??
As boat said if you put a switch in series with connection 1 which is relay coil you can open the circuit to the relay coil which will in effect turn it off...this will make mirrors fold in while your driving.
What is it you want them to do and we will try to sort it.

Hi steve, to be honest if it would be easyer to have them work with the switch with ign on then i will go with that.

The idear is as follows:

The relay is gona be taped in to a ign feed, so key in they unfold, and key out they fold in, if i wanted to fold the mirros in to get in a very tight space ( not that this will prob happen ) i can flick the switch as an over ride otherwise i would have to turn off car for mirrors to fold up, but then the car would not move lol, it would have just been nice that the override switch would only work if you were in ' P ' ( park ) not moving etc, would this be a pain to do it this way?

Ryan.

As things stand it works as you have described. Anything else will be more complicated. The other option is to just have a switch which operates your mirrors as and when you want them. This is easily done by substituting the ign + for a permanent +. This will then just be a manual system where you can open and close the mirrors as you like.
Think its more cool if they operate with the ign but thats just me:cool:

Steve mate, the mirrors are gona be wired to the ign 100%, but i would like a switch in line just incase i have to fold them in if i have to drive though a very tight space, if i dont have the override switch then for me to get though that space i would have to stop the engine and take key out of ign, is there like a 1 touch push button that could be wired in line to do this job steve

Yes thats how it would work..the switch has to be a stay put one. not a momentary one or this will just operate the mirrors for the time you have button pressed and when you release it the mirrors will fold out again...with a stay put one you can be sure the mirrors will stay up for instance if ur reversing out of tight space.

When this switch is on you mirrors will work off ign as normal...if your driving and want mirrors to fold up for tight space you switch the overide to off...the mirrors will then fold up...when you get past tight space you flick switch back to on and the mirrors will fold back out again. Useful if you want to park in a garage and want the mirrors to stay in whilst you get out of the garage.

That sounds 100% what i need steve, so if the engine is running, i can flick the switch and they will stay folded untill the switch is switched back off, the switch will prob not be on view any way as its gona be a over ride switch, it will be somewhere, where it cant be played with etc i think, so the link you sent me for that switch will work, i think there is x2 prongs, what ones would they go to on the list of 0 - 8 wires you labled steve?
