Please can someone confirm which side is the incoming side to the gas meter and which is the outgoing side. I am confident which it is, however someone keeps telling me differently and its annoying me. Cheers

the incoming is where the gas comes in and the outgoing is what costs a mortgage. :13:. to mmake it easy for you, the tap is on the incomer. a clue is the pipe coming out of the ground.

The pipe doesn't come out of the ground, its comes through the wall just as the pipe over on the right hand side goes through the wall. The 'tap' as you call is the regulator and is on the left hand side of the meter, which is what I thought is the incoming side but someone has told me its the other way.

Cheers guys. Thought it was, but someone senior to me tried telling me that the incoming side on this meter was the right. I had the feeling they were trying to wind me up and it worked.

Thanks for the clarification.

The tap or regulator is on the incoming side, think about it if it was on the out going side you would be shutting gas off on wrong side of meter, this would make it a lot harder for gas board to change meter,
A regulator regulates
A tap taps
A shut off valve shuts off

trying to be nice---------- the yellow pipe is the gas coming into the house from the big pipe in the road
the aluminium regulator on top of the meter outlet is where the gas comes out to the appliances in the house once it is "regulated" at a ceratain reduced pressure
is that ok taz darling?

So the gas enters the meter on the left.
Damn, all these years I've had it wrong, time to turn my meter around.
I was wondering why the gas board owed me about ÂŁ84,623.

Wrong, the yellow pipe is the outgoing.
The regulator and valve are on the incoming side.

Thanks for your post Ajay but the yellow pipe is the outgoing side in this picture. If you look carefully it is connected onto the right hand side of the meter.

Do you have a better picture? The emergency shut off valve should come off the incoming supply then from an anaconda pipe to the meter regulator on the left hand side of the meter as you look at it.
The right hand side of the meter pipework will go to feed the appliances.
From the picture we cant see the ecv.
