The incoming gas is regulated down before it enters the meter.

Do you have a better picture? The emergency shut off valve should come off the incoming supply then from an anaconda pipe to the meter regulator on the left hand side of the meter as you look at it.
The right hand side of the meter pipework will go to feed the appliances.
From the picture we cant see the ecv.

yes you can just bottom end of the reg the bury spot :D

The pipe doesn't come out of the ground, its comes through the wall just as the pipe over on the right hand side goes through the wall. The 'tap' as you call is the regulator and is on the left hand side of the meter, which is what I thought is the incoming side but someone has told me its the other way.

Are you on a wind-up or are you really that stupid?? Tell you what bonny lad .. sell your tools on Flea Bay and go stacking shelves at ASDA - this game is WAY beyond you.

BUT ,,,, the incomer is the one with the tap, semi-rigid pipe and governor attached to it!!!

Blimey! Just signed up to the forum out of general interest. Didn't realise that it would be this entertaining! How can you make a discussion out of this? If you don't know, there's a bloody great arrow on the top of the meter

Stick around a bit longer and have your mind further boggled by the heated debates on wiring sheds, wiring showers, PIR controlled security lights, Bathroom fans and cooker / hobs what make of screwdriver is best, which pliers are best ditto side cutters &cordless drills. Do I use 6mm or 10mm cable for my shower / cooker, should a van be signwritten or not, should I buy a van or estate car. The list is endless and I never cease to be both amazed and amused at how many mature tradesmen can get into such a massive lather over such simple basic things.

It's quite hilarious sometimes!!
