Ive been asked to install a new circuit for an induction hob. The customer doesnt have the appliance as of yet but after a little bit of searching i managed to find the technical info i was after. The total load is stated as 3.68kw, but it also states that there are 2 x burners rated at 1.4kw and 2 others rated at 1.8kw. Obviously adding the burners together gives me a rating much bigger than the 3.68kw stated. As the kitchen is due to be plastered this week i need to get my first fix done for this circuit and was just wondering whether to cover my arse with a cable big enough to take the load of the 4 x burners or whether a diversity factor has been applied and i should just work of the 3.68kw total load.

For anyone interested went back to this job a week or so ago. Kitchen fitter had taken my outlet plate off and instead installed a single socket outlet as the hob came with plug top. The customer had decided to change the hob that they were having as the previous one couldnt be guaranteed before xmas. Its a little ott but they now have a 45a cooker switch controlling a single socket outlet wired in 6mm2

Nothing wrong with that

i know, like you said not having the full information and being unable to read minds i was always going to err on the side of caution as stated in earlier posts. Obviously had i the information to begin with i wouldnt have designed it in such a fashion.

Kitchens are usually the number one room for changes, wire it once and no doubt they'll swap the gas hob for a ceramic, add under unit lights, move the sink, drop the ceiling, move the whole kitchen a foot to the right and sack off the fan oven for an aga.....

I hate kitchens! Haha
