Hi to all and looking forward to asking and reading your comments on various tasks. My question is when can you start to sign off your own work.
Looking forward to you reply

You can sign your work off when you're competent to do so.

You can sign off when you are competent to do so also if the work you are doing falls under part p then you will have to be a member of a scheme (niceic, napit, elecsa) to be able to sign that work off

If you have the necessary skills and experience to be able to carry out the job you are doing competently and safely then you can sign off that work on a suitbale installation certificate.

BS7671 3rd amendment is planned to have the following definitions:
Skilled person (electrically). Person with relevant education and experience to enable him or her to perceive risks and to avoid hazards which electricity can create.

Instructed person (electrically). Person adequately advised or supervised by electrically skilled persons to
enable him or her to perceive risks and to avoid hazards which electricity can create.
.
Ordinary person. Person who is neither a skilled person nor an instructed person

The Electrically skilled person would be the only one expected to complete certificates.
To define competence is difficult as it cannot be precise.
Competence can be aided by qualifications and by experience and also requires the person involved to be confident of that competence.
If you have been appropriately trained, by whatever method, to be able to undertake the work you are doing in a workmanlike manner, and inspect and test, and be able to assess and interpret the results of this inspection and testing in comparison to the requirements of the wiring regulations (and the building regulations, and the EAWR, and HSAW Act, and...., etc.) and confirm that the installation is compliant and safe then you can complete and sign off the certificate.

However competence can only practically be determined in retrospect, once the court has failed to convict you!
