Hello to everyone,

I've always been interested in electrical work but only qualification I've got is in PAT testing. My job (caretaker) required myself and 2 other people to learn how to test appliances which we use for our work. I would like to gain a qualification for an electrician and maybe move from one area of work to another. This will give me a bit more knowhow on electrical work.

Welcome to the forum :) What do you care take?

Welcome to the forum :) What do you care take?
Thanks Lou, I'm a caretaker for a local London borough council, looking after a large estate and whenever needed I PAT test equipment that we use and don't use :) . My first recollection of electrical work was when I was 7 and decided to find out how the light come on .... lol after 2 black burn spots on my finger and a rather dazed look , I learnt to respect electricity after that day :)

Welcome to the forum Mate.

with all the knowledge on this forum what would be the best PAT testing equipment, at work we use the Seaward 50
First off, welcome to the forum. The Seaward 50 is a VERY basic entry level unit. Hard to say what the best unit for you would be. Depends what you are testing, how often you will be testing things, how you are storing records/producing certs and if you need 110v testing. My testers of choice would be either a Seaward Supernova plus or a second hand Kewtech KT77.

There's a good chart to compare tester features HERE

Hi Moley, thank you for the welcome and yes I can see with the chart I'll just be needing something small to test electrical items such as industrial vacuum's, deck scrubbers and so on. Hence why the employer only got the Seaward 50 but I'm not really comfortable with that tester.
