You missed my point: people will just use two holes instead.

I understand what you mean but eddy currents are not normally encountered until the cable is carrying more than 200amp. even tho it wouldn't be best practise to use two holes I cant see it being a problem within a typical domestic install.

Which gives a Ze of what?

Great. Lets discuss ignoring BS7671 - should we just shred the whole book?

I wouldn't use two holes on a meatal enclosure as I understand 521.5.1 of the BGB however I thought I would mention the 200amps on a single cable as I no it would get on rockingit's t**s as he seems to have a soft spot for me lol.

I have a copy of the amendment 3 and the only bit that I can see that relates to the CU being fire resistant is if the insulating part "meets the 960 degree glow wire flammability test as defined in BS EN 60695-2-11". And only then if the CU is fitted in "single location which contains flammable liquid in significant quantity".

Now this may be from an early edition of the changes, so don't hold me to it but this comes from the IET. I have tried looking at the spec for a Wylex and MK CU to see if they are fire resistant to 960 degrees but I cant find owt. I have emailed them both and still await their response.

If that is the DPC you have then it has changed.

If that is in the final draft that has just gone to print, then it has changed in the last few weeks, because the 960 deg option was removed 2 or 3 weeks ago when I had sight this section of a final draft.
Which I was VERY reliably informed was, the, final version going to print, it was just waiting a signature.

And.....given that you can't (easily) stuff 2 x tails through a 25mm stamped entry hole...how many of these steel boards are going to be installed by people who even know about eddy currents??

This is a minefield when you then consider glanding, earthing..... Like I said earlier, it *might* actually start to discourage DIY Dave, who knows.

Depends on the board, the ones I use have 32mm holes above and below the main switch.

Eddy currents don't magically start appearing at 200A, it's just the effects which become more noticeable at those kind of currents.

Plus i think there is a regulation which says they can't pass through different holes in a ferrous enclosure.

And so it came to pass
the electrical industry jumped back in time to 10-15 years ago when boards were all metal
without main switches and devices made out of chocolate I hope.
there was electricity before the 17th came out believe it or not.
how many 15th or 16 th edition boards do you see fail, not many I bet
i just install decent gear to start with that has been proven over time not to fail.
