IR Test

Continuity of what mate?
The instruction is to test at every point of utilisation so if it's an exam what do you think the answer is going to be?
You might think I'm being pedantic here but as trainees you have to do things by the book or you're going to lose points. If you're asked about a test procedure you trot it out verbatim.

I imagine its the (R1+R2) on the lighting circuit. Test every point. Once you have tested at the switch, test at the rose and operate the switch to prove correct polarity.

You need to do something with the 2Ws (and any intermediates)too mate, don't forget that.

Yes good point trev.

To the OP if you don't already own a copy of GN3 then purchasing a copy would be wise. Saying that though i guess a new copy is going to come out early next year when the AMD 3 comes in.

Continuity testing on a lighting circuit- when making a temporary link with line and cpc, does the line go into the same cpc terminal on the earthing busbar or can it be inserted into any available earth busbar terminal?

Thank you guys, I do have the books - need to work on the structure of my questions.

I normally do that but as long as line and cpc are securely connected then it's no big deal mate. If you're using a link between the MCB and the CPC bar then that has to be measured and deducted from the reading obtained during the test so maybe it's less hassle to do it my way.
On an IV I'm going to do all my dead tests before the cables go near a terminal though

Even outside of here, if I knew someone was a trainee they'd get an easy time from me. Unless they were being completely ridiculous of course.

Question. Explain why it is necessary to determine the earth fault loop impedance value of a
circuit?

My answer. So that the breaking capacity of the protective device is greater than the prospective fault current.

Is is this correct?
