ir testing reading 0.00 on ring main and lighting circuit.

hi guys have u seen this before ( probably) lol

i get a reading of 0.00 on my r1 + r2 test

test is on a new cu in garage usual link in from line to earth fluke set to insulation it reads 0.00 ??

also when doing an end to end test line & neutral ok readings earth gives >2000 open circuit..why? practising testing lol.

If you are linking out at the board and using the IR test then you will have a reading of 0.00! you need the continuity test setting to measure your r1+r2!

you need the fluke set to ohms for your r1+r2. insulation resistance is a completly different test. not sure about fluke but the new megger 1552 ive just brought comes with a dvd which will take you through all the settings on your meter.

You've clearly got slightly confused between the dead tests. You'll need to grasp a better understanding soon because applying 250V/500V (or possibly even 1kV) on an R1&R2 test is actually quite dangerous.
Have you purchased any books for guidance?

Sorry to jump on this post.

I bought a megger 1553 (so basically the same as yours) - just wondered what is the dvd you got with it called as I would have I would have possibly had one.

Got a couple of discs with it but pretty sure it aint got any dvd's with it.

it was just a megger dvd that came with it.ive since found it on youtube so check it out there.dont think there is much difference regards controls of the 2 meggers so should apply,

Don't think its possible to get a meter that simpler than a Megger to navigate around TBH

i've got the 1552. it's as easy to use as a multimeter and 10 times more use. battery life is cak though

Don't think they will damage the meter, more to do with the performance of the batteries I think.
