Hi im not an electrician or anything i just thought i would ask on a forum of people who might know what my problem is. If what im asking is stupid or anything then sorry.
Basically over the last two weeks fuses around my house have all decided to go at once in my appliances. And some electrical appliances have decided to stop working, I dont feel this is a coincidence.

My bedroom lamp fuse has gone twice which i changed
Washing machine electrics went
Hoover broke
Both hair dryers have broken within 2 days
Have had to replace 6 lights, 2 on the same socket.
And changed fuses on 4 other appliance plugs fuses

Can someone tell me if there could be a reason for this all happening at once? i know fuses break as a safety feature due to unsafe currents.
thanks

First of all doing you have building works around you ? might be the local electrical company are doing works and have increased your supply voltage

Just a thought

I would agree with the above post whatever is going wrong is outside your address have you checked with neighbours to see if they are suffering the same type of thing.

Chris

Yes when your local electricity board are working it can cause all sorts of problems in the household. Neighbours need not be the ones either side of you, try a few doors away as the work carried out if this is the cause is likley to be over a wide area.

The only other thing to look at has your list of applicances been used on the one circuit.

Chris

Its ok could not remember what appliances were going wrong on you but looking at the list again its unlikely that they are all on the same circuit which again points to an outside influence. What type of consumer unit (fuse box) do you have.

Chris

sorry i dont know that, it's just a semi-dettached house. Is this a problem someone has come across before? if not then perhaps it is just an unfortunate coincidence.

Have seen this sort of thing happen a few times when an electricity board underground joint was slowly failing in the road and the voltage varied between 180v to 250v
I would contact your electricity supply company to investigate they will often install monitoring equipment to identify the fault
If you can check the voltage throughout day especially 5 - 6 pm which is a peak load time then you may find the problem

I have worked on mains electricity and once went to a fault on a cable that was causing low volts at 1 end of the terrace and high volts at the other. Appliances were being fried at the latter.

Call the electricity board to examine further.

I cant offer you anymore or better advice than has already been posted, but i would appreciate it if you could post the outcome.....if you ever find out.

Cheers..........Howard

Its my understanding that if it is an electricity supply fault they will pay for replacement items as I have known this to happen a number of times. Try not to accept repairs as they could go wrong with unidentified faults in the future. Demand new with new warranty. Good luck

Make sure you have all your house system tested and inspected as I have known this not done and then found fried cable and faults later with ongoing problems at your expense.

again good luck

Please post the outcome.
