so what happens when a fuse on the PCB goes down? customer has to pay a sparks call-out then 4 hours waiting time for a gas reg. guy to turn up, then pay his call-out on top? cheaper to buy a new boiler.

that's the old adage my dad used to say....I dont bother installing smart thermostats for people anymore unless its a longstanding customer and i know the heating install is decent or a new install done tidily.
went to one a couple months back after a diyer attempt and he had completely messed up his wiring in the junction box, had copied a youtube video apparently but didnt label anything... then tried to put it all back together before i got there. I took one look at it and tripled the quote and added it to the original nest install price. he wasnt happy but i gave him the choice of paying or having no hot water and heating! his wife was less than impressed

I would be interested to know what the consequences would be for all concerned if a diyer did it themselves and then either caused the boiler to malfunction and cause harm somehow.... nest have all the clauses in the paperwork saying not our fault use a professional. would they throw the gas regs at them and say shouldn't have removed or opened the boiler cover to install it as they are not gas safe? could have implications on insurance etc...I think the boiler manufacturers and the smart thermostat manufactures need to create decent reliable fool proof information ....
Here's hoping!
Don't they do that already?I think the boiler manufacturers and the smart thermostat manufactures need to create decent reliable fool proof information ....

thats how there built and that why they come pre wired, for the sparks so they dont have to remove the case
also were allowed to connect into fcu no need for sparks unless there isnt one then its a sparks job

The installation manuals are pretty foolproof already, what more information do you feel you require from them?
Yes the nest can easily be installed with that boiler.
I didn't say I required ... From the number of posts on here it's obvious that the manufacturers information isn't sufficient or clear enough ..
I’ve never yet seen a boiler fully pre-wired. Sure Worcester’s turn up with an incoming supply cable but there’s no pre-wired external controls cabling.
