O

Octopus

So 3 days in a row I've seen new ish installs where the 3 different installers have failed to use grommets ..

This is one I saw today:

So apart from the fact theres no grommet and it doesn't comply with the IP ratings .....................

rant over ..........

FFS another one today - I was asked if I would test an installation - when I asked what had been done the owner said the work was WIP - so I visited after said "builder" had left for the day .....

I looked at 3 back boxes - none had grommets - the owner has complete confidence as this chaps has been doing this for years....

So I told the owner that I wasn't interested in doing the testing .......or getting involved at all!

Sometimes it is the simplest of things that wind me up, your picture shows something that is so simple to resolve but has been ignored.
you cant account for lack of competence as your title suggests!
This was the thing that I was up against when I was a Q.S. It was never something that was more technical it was always something as simple as this then I was told that I was too picky and got it in the neck when I would not sign off.

You were too picky based on this carp ......... doesn't say much for the quality of the business you were working for!

Yup, saw that SWD...squished cans planked in crevices says "poor work" to me too. Had a new room formed over my garage a while back, the original "conversion" roof was sliding apart due to appealing workmanship by the "builder"...when the guys pulled the plasterboard off the walls they counted 80 empty beer cans, some quarter bottles, and hundreds of Greggs bags stuffed in the cavity...so that solved the cheese and onion aroma!

Yes, true Brits for sure. Coincidentally, just 5 minutes before the guys started the demolition, one of them asked if I knew who had done the botched job (editing previous post I meant "appalling", not "appealing"!) and I told him it was a chap named Bryce. He immediately said, "Oh, boozy Bryce, eh?"...and then the evidence was revealed...seems he was well-known for boozing and botching.
