We've all been there fella, and unfortunatley - like so many thread's on here latley have stated, the problem is only going to get worse. Now it seem's everyones at the game because its a 'quick buck' and its slowly ruining our trade.

More and more people (except the fine members of this forum obviouslly) seem to have less pride in there work / care for the regs or health and safety.

Even 'competent electricians' are at it to be fair aswell, i wouldn't say to the extent of your original OP description - but the point is, its becoming more money orientated than pride. Its a shame, i was proud the day i passed my apprentership, seems to be all for nothing as people are doing it with no qualifications - therefore bypassing the hardwork and graft it took to qualify.

The problem is only to get worse im affraid.

seems he was recommended by next door neighbour changed there D.B aswell ! god help em!
told her to ring trading standards and building control for what good it will do
suppose could ring tax man as no bill was issued!

Another possibility is to find out if he/she is a member of any Trade Association ( FSA) or scheme and if so report it to them. But your approach on Trading Standards and Building Control is also correct. Report it to whoever has the ability to do something about it.

Dont think i'd be wanting to put my finger anywhere near him......

All you can do is spread the word, rant and rave....and hope the customers do the same when you show them how it should be done resulting in your good name being spread in the hope this chancer gets less and less work.

What you going to do when you find out his name?

Save you're breath.
yes but the way i sees it tony....is every thread the likes of this is an opportunity....and to do nowt is an opportunity missed to get shut of these imposters....pure n simple....
as trev says....sing till it has to be taken notice of....until then...the whole sorry shenanigans trundles on....

The industry needs a single regulator body that actually has powers to prosecute. Until then, the routes to get these cowboys is too wishy-washy, confusing and unclear. Which is why it's easier to do nowt about it.

I think you have a duty of care to go and explain to the neighbours and offer to inspect the work at their house and if there are any issues let them know, then it would be only right and proper of you to advise them to contact trading standards or some other body.I think the more people kick up about this the better and at least that way it may get something done about this person.I would not like to leave it knowing they may have issues without at least offering to have a look, not a full inspection initially just a quick look see and see if there is an obvious danger. Then nail the bleeder to the cross!

lol 2.5 mm shower! 1 mm alarm, i dont use 1 mm on anything, i know i could save a few quid if i calculated properly but find it easier to have a supply of 2.5,1.5 and 6mm handy plus 10 mm earth. i also have 0.75 and 1mm flexi, if i need anything else screwfix

That will be as opposed to screwing the customer then which is what this clown in the original post is doing.:)

Had a similar situation with a friend of the wife.
She had a new cooker and the fitter (rightly) refused to connect as there was no earth path.

When I checked the CU I found that a cowboy had previously told her that she needed a replacement as the old one was no longer allowed under the new regulations. He kindly did the replacement and forgot to connect the cooker earthwire. She has been using an unearthed cooker for 2 years.
