the Poles didn't have a chance in 1939. horse cavalry can't compete with Sukas.but at least they didn't run away, unlike the frogs in 1940
That was propaganda from the Italians they never attacked mechanised infantry with horse, fake news.

I am sorry elsparko ... I cannot say that I had noticed the loss of your 'sparkling' wit and banter!

Got attacked by the Germans and the Russians so hard to do so, but held out longer then France who the British love, without 303 Squadron, the work on the Enigma (cracking and building a copy) machine and the retrieval of a V rocket and location of the factories building a short wave system to locate U boots inventing the mine detector, defended Tobruk and fought a bloody battle at Falaise as well as Monte Casino, the Poles didn't chicken out at Arnhem even though Sosobowski told Montgomery it was an ill fated move and would end up in disaster and it was only Patten who rescued the situation otherwise it would have been a massacre and Montgomery was a total ****er who everyone hated.

My there also survived the Arctic convoys, the irony of helping the Russians who screwed his country over.

Then there was Yalta.

You are typical ill informed Brit, the Brits are the best we saved the world blah blah blah but ended up in poverty and broke after the war the British "helped" win the war but ended up one f the biggest losers as they lost the Commonwealth and ended up in debt to the US, the US and the Soviets became super powers where the UK became a nobody.

Lest We Forget: World War II - http://gadabyte.com/ww-ii/poland.html

Us Brits as you've termed us & not yourself, are very well informed of our history, and our failings in WWII. We criticise ourselves without let, its one of our nauseating traits.
We also recognise the help & assistance from the Commonwealth and other countries in the defeat of the ----'s. But without Hitler deciding to attack Russia and the later arrival of the US, Germany would of invaded UK, and then dominated in western Europe.

Its fine that you bump your gums about the few achievements of Poland during WWII, but put that in prospective. You've mentioned Poland's best achievements, but they didn't win the war by themselves.

PS the Brits love France, but hate the French. ;)

Winning of WW2 was a group effort... Why is there always 'you wouldn't have won the war without us' waffle...
Everyone played a part.
Yes the French got run over very quickly. That was mainly down to great tactics of the Germans. If the UK was not an island then we also would have been invaded.
The French resistance played their part by keeping some of the German troops off the front lines and in France trying to keep it in order.

Without the financial assistance of the US it would have been worse, the Americans saw the political gain in power and the larger picture as they broke the Commonwealth.

Some of the issues the Poles have is the treatment of Sosobowski by Browning.

Lets all be friends now and play nice ;o))))) Its just a bug bear for the older Poles as my Mum wasn't allowed to march in the victory parade after going through so much during the war.

The Commonwealth wasn't lost by the UK, its still around.

I've just finished reading Arnhem (Anthony Beevor), which doesn't give Browning glowing reports, but thats something been known for decades, even the 70's film Bridge too Far acknowledged that.

Monty's plan, was to beat Patton, who also was not a particularly nice bloke; but not many Field Marshals or 4 star Generals are. Sosobowski biggest beef, was not be allowed fight early enough in the plan. If Monty had consulted the Dutch, they'd of told how fated his plan was. But guess that was of little importance.

The Commonwealth is around but after WWII the British lost most of its influence around the world maybe I used the wrong term with the Commonwealth, Britain lost its Empire. The US and the Russians gained and everyone helped Germany rebuild its factories so they had modern machinery whilst the British had old machines.

Look at Germany now (apart from the influx of a load of nutters) compared to the UK which also has a load of nutters imported in.

El Sparko must be feeling left out by now.......... was he banned for something?
busy busy bee,

ww2 would have been a hell of alot shorter had usa not been funding hitlers rise to power in the first place...

George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of ---- Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

You gotta remember, WWII started, 'cos WWI didn't finish things off. Even the Poles could help us there. WWI started because William I got miffed that Harold cornered his Crown. These days we are a bit more civilised, and argue about such in the United Nations, to a point.

And we fight wars by proxy, America wanted to get one over Russia and cut its control in the Middle East so funded the Taliban........... brilliant idea.........
