HI there, I know most people have heard this question so many times before but I’ve searched and there are so many different answers to this question.

I want to know what Grading I will be given once I have finished my 2356 NVQ Level 3

I put myself through college and wasn’t under a apprentice scheme,

I have a -Trainee JIB card
- ECS Card
-2330 Level 2 & 3
- 2382 17th Edition

I have always worked in the trade while at college and just wondered if I had to do the am2 or is the NVQ enough.
I’m confident I would pass the am2 but hoped I wouldn’t need it and could spend the £800 on the 2391 instead.

Thanks any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the reply. I think I would stick with the general requirements for starters. I won't deny, I just don't want to go ack to studying or back into the classroom again if I can help it. I maybe would for courses taking me into new avenues. I am quite happy to self learn or request help on forums or technical helplines.

Regards

I read that they'd done some deal with LABC's to do inspections on their behalf and one of the requirements was a 2391-10 passed within 5 years.

About 8 years ago or so, a mate of mine joined napit for pennies to be put on a register to do these inspections, he never got a phone call. Did napit not original set up for the qualified test and inspector Electrician or something a long them lines?

Now they are just interested in taking money off the working class for their own staff to self promote and earn a good living "FREELOADERS"

i was taking to my tutor on friday and he said most companys in england have lost faith in the college system purely because of the pass at any cost mentality it all comes down to money when a student completes a course thats when the college recieves the money

Yep, I've heard the same... in fact I know someone who simply won't take anyone on unless they have a gold card - me as well!!! And he's known me for more than eight years.

I didn't read the 5 year bit lol.

I like to repeat the one where their inspector came to see me in 2009 and he admitted to me that the JIB would only give him a LABOURER'S card. But he sat the napit inferior testing course and passed also told me the short EAL course I think he said was hard to PASS.

I passed the 2391 in 1999/2000, they need to get real and stop thinking they are something of a special organization, they just small fry in the world of Electrical Contractors, all the big boys are with the NICEIC.

All big organizations prefer an Approved NICEIC Company not a napit member.

cantabrian....thats interesting.

Are you trained with a JiB company then?

Im just interested, im not trying to open a can of worms.

Ive worked for a JiB company, lots, like years, almost 10 years. I wasn't employed by them though, I was self-employed from the day I recieved my 2360/2.

Ive got an interview on the 7th Feb. Its for the government. If I get the job then the JiB can go swivel. If I don't get the job then I need to be JiB registered it seems if im gonna be able to apply for many jobs?.

Answers?

JiB?

i finished my apprenticeship in 1968, done the usual, got on bigger firms and they put me in for grading, i don,t do domestic and have no interest in getting 2391 or any other bits of paper cos there is no reward at the end (the 15th was a farce!! we got more for passing it and the failures complained so they put every one on he same money)

It’s sad that you had to say no more money to them for them to pull their fingers out.
