Hi, having got some useful advice and assistance from people on this forum I thought I'd put up the job here too.

I'm looking to get a new Consumer Unit installed to replace my ancient one (pictured). I also want to increase the electrical capacity of my 1930's house by adding a new 32A ring main, with sockets in the loft. There are currently no sockets in the loft, only 1 light fitting which on inspection doesn't work. I'm located near Stalybridge. Would anyone like to quote for this job?

Thanks.

hi Artoo welcome to the forum, it would be advisable to have a EICR done on you property before had to show the what the installation is like .looking the pic you put on .what type of property is it .

Judging by the sticker on the board looks like it most defiantly needs and EICR carried out before anything, possibly a candidate for VIR cable...

similar situ in Offerton. was stuck in that thursday. 40 minutes to get 5 miles. and there's banners up saying "block the bypass. it will destroy the great crested mosquito's habitat". sod it then. just let them all choke on exhaust fumes.

What were the circumstances or the fault finding that instigated that Clown company to attach the "at risk" sticker on your dated but nevertheless robust consumer unit

that was British Gas Homeserve engineer, following a boiler repair. There seems to be nothing wrong with it, but I believe it obviously isn't up to today's standards - nothing like a bit of scaremongering to drum up business I suppose?!

His socket tester probably beeped at him...

When was the repair done? Was it recent?
I wouldn't trust a British Gas person. It's all about money with them.

It was a year or two ago. I don't think it even had anything to do with the boiler, it would've been ostensibly a 'health check' or something along those lines, but the wiring wasn't tested or anything.

Any sort of paperwork produced, apart from the extortionate bill?
